BFA is the last expansion that felt like Warcraft

I’ve made numerous posts defending BFA and explaining why its an underrated expansion, but with the most recent lackluster patch we got, it made me realize more than ever how empty the “world” of Warcraft truly feels post BFA. Yet another aimless patch with trivial content, if we can even call it that. Story is emptier than ever and feels disconnected. More cutsey nonsense that doesn’t fit whatsoever developed by somebody who had no business creating content for this game…

I’m usually super OCD about completing the main campaign for every exoansion, but DF is the first time in my 17 years playing that I genuinely didn’t care to even do it.

BFA truly was the last time that the game felt somewhat like the WoW that I love and grew up with. For starters it featured characters I love and actually care about. Jaina, Anduin, Sylvanas, Nathanos, as well as the new cast of Kul Tiran and Zandalari Troll characters. Just go and watch the BFA blizzcon panel and see how lovable and relatable all those characters are… In comparison who do we have for dragonflight? A bunch of whiny dragons idgaf about…

In BFA, the theme of Horde vs. Alliance was more prevelent than ever, story was engaging and relevant, the stakes felt high, the war campaign was interesting, the world was beautiful and most importantly the new races felt meaningful and important to the story. After BFA it all went downhill.

Shadowlands bastardized the story that BFA built and felt like a long nightmare/psychedelic acid trip, and, dragonflight is Disney friendship rainbow nonsense.

BFA was an end of an era.

I love BFA and don’t care if I am in the minority or not as everyone has different tastes, but I agree with you here. I can’t put my finger on it but SL and DF definitely don’t have that “WoW feel”. Even WoD had it. I am not saying I don’t like SL or DF as I had fun in SL and DF is my first expansion I am playing “casually” but it is still fun. I was thinking the same thing though about the WoW feel and this expansion and SLs, to me, not feeling like WoW.

Metzen is coming back, at least to a degree. And BFA was the last one he actually helped on, no?

I am really hoping his influence will rein things in, story wise, and get things back on track.

Hard agree! This Disney Fication of an expansion is not good. The only thing i like is the new villian dragon, atleast he sounds evil!

BfA was the second most frustrating expansion to play, right behind Legion.

Never sign me up for clearing Expedition weekly, 3x emissary for AP/week, clearing all raid bosses/week for AP and mission tables for BiS HoA power again. And don’t even get me started on spamming 15 Atal’dazar hoping for the ****ing chest drop.

I think it’s time you all admit that you loved not being able to log out of the game and only having to log when you want to run Rated PvP, Raids, or M+. That was the absolute best part of Slands–logging out and not feeling like you were punished for not playing, and now Dflight has made that gearing process so much better and removed so much RNG. There has also never been more open world content to do in the game

to me, BFA and SLs felt little to nothing like WoW i had played up to that point. SLs especially.
DF feels more like Kalimdor and Northrend, places I enjoy playing in, more than anything since.

Yet somehow the game feels more shallow and empty than ever before… Wonder why that is

Probably because you log in everyday or play the game as a “solo player”

Definitely not a solo player lmao. I’d quit after a week if I had to play solo

We playing the same classes and still the same content that have not changed form legion. World quests, Mplus, Arena, battlegrounds and raids. Its still warcraft even if we not killing orcs forever or the return of the legion, the same settings and story gets old and even the devs knows this. I still prefer DF over SL and BFA.

Doing world quests in BFA and Island Expeditions was a lot of fun.

Nazjatar knocked it outa the park. And mechagon was a really decent megadungeon. And short little side story.

Eternal Palace was the Pinnacle of raids for old wow (modern raids do need to change). EP was just so good though.

BFAs weakest points where M+ and dungeons and even those where passable. Say what you will of the hackjob of a story at least it was dramatic, interesting, and changed the world.

Azerite armor was absolutely baller and stomped the heck out of tier sets. We should have kept the Azerite armor system like 3 more expacs if not just made it core.

There’s pros and cons to every expac. However BFA was the most mature and big picture pack and didn’t cater to any minority segments of the player base. Like mythic plus pushers. Or race to world first. (M+ good, catering only to the top 3% M+ game bad).

I disagree. Legion felt like the end of an era when it came to WoW expansions
