There’s a comment on Wowhead claiming that per the 8.1 PTR, the BfA version of Invasions give only 25% of the experience that Legion invasions did. Meaning so much for the alt power-leveling which IMO was the whole point of Legion invasions in the first place.
Can we please get rid of the fun misers leading the current WoW team who keep ruining everything good about every feature? I get that you’d like me to play your game more, but what you don’t get is that the best way to do that is to give me more fun.
Under your nerfed systems, I am running out of desire to play far faster than I am running out of alts to potentially level. If you’d give me a decent feeling of progress and reward, I could easily enjoy that across as many alts as I have recreational time. Throwing obvious slow downs in my face at every turn has the opposite effect.
Look how far we have fallen since Legion. Back then I levelled every class to max: it was fun and fast to get to 110 via Invasions; there was per-class content to enjoy via the order halls (yes some overlap but still felt worth seeing on each class to me); mission tables that made each alt a good investment; and finally a fun per-spec experience on the mage tower to cap it off. That’s great replay value. BfA has nothing by comparison.

Was hoping to level super quick with the invasions.
I can understand Blizzard doesn’t want everyone to be able to power level through the content but at this point in their design I really hope they’re taking a deep critical look at the entire leveling processes.
Each year that goes by it just feels more and more out of touch with what the game is about today.
I really love the old content and want it to stick around but to ask someone who’s not brand new to WoW to go through another HUNDRED AND TWENTY LEVELS of which only 7 are really relevant: it’s just a hard pill to swallow over and over.
From a design perspective, I’m not sure it’s really a good idea to have one form of leveling be drastically faster than other forms of leveling. They should ideally be all pretty equal in terms of speed. That way you can level how you want without getting massively surpassed by some other method you find less enjoyable.
That’s not valid if said forms of content are available at all times. Legion invasions were not. They are just a quick boost to utilize when they are available.
Yes, but Legion already had a built-in good trade-off for that: the boosted xp from Invasions was only available in a limited quantity per day. It was thus clearly aimed at the alt power leveller, who could push multiple alts through it but not have any one of them outpace a player who was dedicated to one character (because that one character could earn more in a day than the capped XP from invasions.)
If you’re saying that things can change from PTR to live, than yes, fair enough. On the other hand we can only give feedback on what we see. I’ll be happy to say I was pleasantly surprised if they fix it before live.
Point, but is that trade-off vanishing since with 8.1 they are making leveling faster for all forms of leveling except this one method? I think overall, leveling is going to be faster in general so that seems a good tradeoff to me. Just personal opinion.
My understanding is that the 8.1 leveling acceleration is primarily for levels < 110. The boost is very substantial for some level ranges but pretty tiny for 110 - 120. Since I already have a 110 for each class, I only care about the latter.
Lol… let’s create an assumption of intent and get mad when the devs don’t agree with why I think a feature was made.
Invasions were not made as a leveling feature. They were made to add to the immersion of the world. Demon invasions were meant to make us feel like demons were actually invading and BfA invasions are meant to make the war more real.
Fair enough that I can not know the developer intent about anything. None of us can unless we were in the room.
But I can know how the Legion invasions were described to me in every description I ever heard from players, blogs, guides, etc, every one of which had lots to say about their leveling benefits and nothing to say about anything else (other than the brief period where the shards were relevant.)
If Blizz is that out of touch with how their efforts were received or used, that’s pretty much exactly the point I’m making.
With rested XP it takes a little under a zone and a half to go from 110 to 120. Invasions arent really needed to speed up leveling as its already pretty fast.
I can see them wanting the invasions to be a nice boost to leveling XP but not a complete alternative to questing.
That they were exploited for massive XP gains by the community, which was never their intent so they chose to rectify that by reducing the amount of XP?
That’s like getting mad at the government when they close a tax loophole. 110-120 is a week of casual play. If you need it any faster than the problem is with you.
