I know we are still early into the expansion, but which healers are currently looking good compared to the rest? I am interested in trying out healing for the first time since cata as an alt, but am stuck on what class to level. I will be focusing more on pve content, but will also dabble into some pvp from time to time. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
1. Disc priest
2. Holy Paladin
3. Restro Druid
4. MW Monk
5. Holy Priest
6. Restro shaman

Priest is strong right now. Everyone is saying Resto druid plays nice. I'll probably stick to mistweaver.
My advice is thus; Made trial boosted characters you want to try out, use your hearthstone to skip the intro, hit up a class trainer to enter proving grounds, or do some bgs, or whatever. You can change specs and play with things this way without wasting a character boost or leveling effort. Just make sure to read skill text and passives in your skill book to have an idea of how things work if its something you haven't touched in awhile/ever.

All these are assumptions based off how they play currently at 120.
Since neither Raids or M+ are out I could very easily be incorrect.
I’d rank them as follows for Raids
Disc = HPally
RShaman
MW
RDruid = HPriest
For Mythic +
MW = HPally = RDruid
Disc
HPriest
RShaman

As a long time mw I can attest to how trash tier we are. I'd rank us below hunters.
Resto shaman is easily the worst. Many heroics on this shaman (my main), a resto druid, and a MW give me that idea plus talking to others.

The correct answer is that everything will be viable for everything the average player would do. Heroic raiding, Mythic raiding, M+15, etc. So play what you enjoy the most.
With that said however; each healer would generally be ranked by the utility they provide and not just on the output. That would leave Holy Paladin, Resto Shaman, and Discipline Priest as the "better" healers. Holy Priest, Mistweaver, and Resto druid would be roughly equivalent after utility is considered.
Hand of Sacrifice, Blessings, Divine shield are all really good. Spirit Link Totem, APT, Earthen Shield are always going to be good. Discipline is tuned great right now and they've got PW:B for stacked fights and still retain that value through the new talent Luminous Barrier. Even if HPS output is not insane they'll always find a spot in a raid team as long as the player is doing what he should be doing.
Druids still have a lot of potential in raids & M+ through externals like Ironbark, Flourish + Tranquility, and general mobility and Bear form is still excellent for M+. Mistweaver has probably the highest single target output right now but other healers can do just as well through there own abilities even if it seems like the HPS is not the same. Holy Priest has access to Symbol of Hope which I think will be pretty important.
Consider the things you want to do and pick based on that utility / healing style you like. If you just want to pick safe - Hpal / Disc. After Mythic tuning pass happens these two specs likely will not have changed too much in strength.
I would not really worry about statements like;

because they're simply untrue. My Mistweaver spec is currently 332 and I couldn't describe how insane the output is in dungeons right now (Not that it's a great indication of raid performance. We're simply just not trash.).
Find what you like and work at it to improve.
Restoration Shaman the worst this expansion its a struggle to keep anything alive your group will wipe over and over on entry level dungeons, they are that ridiculously bad.sad because I loved this character..RIP

Resto shaman is completely viable in the hands of people who care for their shaman. The big thing for shamans in dungeons at the moment is they do not have strong tank cd's which makes it quite difficult on some pulls. Out of every mythic the hardest bosses/trash pulls to heal are ones that have huge tank damage and excess dmg spilling onto the dps. Final boss in Temple of Sethraliss comes to mind as a very bad fight for resto shamans. I imagine in mythic +s I will struggle hard with temple of sethraliss, Kings rest, and underrot. Otherwise it should be completely possible for a resto shaman to do every dungeon due to their utility they provide.

I wouldn't say that. I'm sitting around 12-15k hps at 328. I've been playing resto since MoP and while it certainly isn't in its' glory days, resto shaman is by no means bad. Slink, no cd purge, 12 second silence and the ungodly overpowered Earth Elemental make dungeons a walk in the park as long as you're paying attention. Raw numbers we may not be the best but we don't need raw numbers when we're cutting mob damage in half

As someone who has run all mythic but siege and rest, this is not true. I leveled through duengons. Shaman suffer from a high skill cap. You can customize their kit for a lot of things. You need to know the content You are doing and prepare accordingly.
For your average player doing normal/heroic raids and low/mid level mythic+ most healers will be fine.
The cracks will begin to show in mythic raids and high level mythic+ where Hpally, Resto druid and potentially Disc priest have the utility and defensive capabilities to handle it. Holy priest sucked at high mythic+ because of crappy defensive, no baseline mobility and little ability to heal on the move. None of those issues were addressed with BFA so when the next MDI gets going, you're not going to see Holy priest comps in the mix, just like in Legion.

If you can’t heal on a resto shaman, you’re doing it wrong.
Is fistweaver viable yet?

Pretty accurate. Id move monk up a little bit though. They seem stronger than druids and maybe stronger than pallies imo.
Ive been tanking on my demon hunter and monks and pallies are my favorites atm.
LOL if you don't have MW as 1 or 2. Next to Holy Pally, they are amazing, far better than disc in M+ (M0 atm)
Resto druid is near the bottom of everyone's list that actually plays one.

To a degree. Right now there are so many damage spikes due to some tanks not being able to handle magic damage and way too many dispells to spam, that FW is just a bit slow atm. For M0 it is cake, but for M10 I think it will be hard. Just way too many dispells.

The earlier advice about utility is what is key. Who cares about the nature or means the health is restored. What matters is what your healer can do BESIDES heal.
Disc is your overall winner based off utility and is viable in PvE and PvP (based on people crying about it). Holy pally would be next. I would then personally have it as MW, shaman, holy priest, and then druid. Druids in particular seem to have massive mana issues as well (or maybe I had bad luck with the 2 I got in mythic 0)
