The first recipe for Battle for Azeroth cooking requires level 45 to eat. This is not useful for new players who could learn cooking at level 10 in Tradewinds Market or Zandalar.
I realize I could go to Kalmador or Eastern Kingdoms and harvest raw materials to level vanilla cooking that would be useful for my level 20, but I’m a veteran and new players channeled into BfA shouldn’t need to detour into the older content.
I have not checked out if other crafted items are useful to new players. Fishing in Zandalar does allow new characters to catch fish.

This is still a problem even a year and a half since this post. Like Gungarusar says, cooking is useless for characters under 45. Sure you can make the food and learn recipes but you can’t eat it and gain the benefits. As mentioned, new and old players are funneled into BFA and have no idea how to get through this without the prior knowledge of vanilla cooking of which there is absolutely NO mention… but the game will bug out trying to tell you to drag an ability to your action bar over and over and over and over and over.
This definitely needs to be addressed.
Gungarusar also mentions about the other crafted items and he’s correct to move along that path. The crafted items tend to start at level 45 or so and the extra ingredient is needed to lower the level. This is backwards. Lower level players shouldn’t have to farm twice as much to be able to craft gear their own level. Leave that to the higher levels who can more afford the auction house or farm it on a flying mount.
And fishing, yep, you can fish in BFA and you can cook it. But you can’t eat it until you are level 45. Considering a player starts here at level 10 or so, that’s a long time not to be able to take advantage of all that cooking crafting the player has been raising skill in the whole time.
It seems it’s easier for veterans but when it comes to new players or players who want to explore the expansion they were forced into, here’s some sugar coated crap.
