Beyond Level 60

I am absolutely loving SoD. It may be the single best thing for WoW. Between the additional features and questing and dungeons and raids, it manages to both keep that classic feeling and breath much needed life into the game. I can honestly say I haven’t felt like getting on retail since I began playing it.

That said, I don’t know what the future holds for SoD, but I hope it keeps the level cap at 60, which could be difficult if content is meant to continue coming. So I wanted to bring up an idea I posted like 17 years ago for Vanilla WoW.

Leveling Stats.

The idea is a simple one. You pick an amount of experience comparable to 59-60 or a bit higher and each time the bar is filled, you give the player 1 point to spend in a stat tree. It’s not like the talent tree, which is meant to define the character, it’s more about augmenting the power they have in a small way.

Small enough that a few points don’t make much difference but over time, as you level them, it can be felt or seen. Not only the main stats, not only the secondary stats but stats that make no difference in combat or are cosmetic. Even stats that are racial specific.

The idea is that it wouldn’t be game changing, it wouldn’t break down the need for tiers in raiding or content, it would provide additional boosts, it would provide nearly endless “endgame” motivation and provide uniqueness to the player.

Stats List

Primary: Strength, Agility, Intellect, Spirit, and Stamina. 25 Points in each one.

Secondary: Armor Penetration, Attack Speed, Attack Power, Crit Chance, Crit Damage, Hit Chance, Spell Power, Healing Power, Health Regen, Mana Regen, Resistences, Armor, Block, Parry, Dodge… Etc. give them 20 points.

Cosmetic: Size (You could have the points put in either Small or Large but not both), Aura (Points could be put in 1 of the following- Fel, Shadow, Light, Arcane, Nature, Fire, Water, Air, Death, Life, Frost…Etc. It would give some effect around the Character), Charisma (1% increase to rep gain per point), Armor or weapon effects (Shine, sharpness, glow, fade)

Random: Mounted speed, unmounted speed, hearthstone speed, hearth stone CD, active racial ability boost…

Then when you have hundreds of points, hundreds of “levels” you give them an unlock point for every 50 points they earn for bigger things.

Milestones

Surname- the ability to pick a displayed Last name
Titles- just a list of like 10 unique titles of which they can pick 1
“Elite Frames”- That dragon wrap around your picture to show off how far you’ve progressed. Do color tiers. Red, Blue, Purple, Green, White, Black, maybe even the classic Gold at a high “level” like 500 points.
Tent- A tent you could set-up outside the city to get rested XP when you log out and perhaps even set a point for you to hearth to as we explore far from towns and cities.

And my favorite…

Cosmetic Clips- Like an Armor kit or enchant but it changes the appearance of the item its added on. Example. “Bear Skin” Add to back, head and shoulders. When added to the back item it looks like the neck down of the bear, added to the shoulders, it drapes the front limbs/paws over the shoulders, added to the head, its the head of the bear as a hood. Added to all three, it looks like you’ve covered yourself in a full bear skin rug. You can do this with a number of things, either for a single item or multiple items combined. It can be a pop out window similar to the runes system so no bag space needed and no concern of item level and stats because it “clips” on to your item. You could even extend this out of the leveling system with a converter to let you convert an item you like the look of, losing the item in the process to create a clip of it. Similar to the cosmetics of retail but with the sacrifice of the D/E mats or Gold from selling it so you can look how you want.

Anyway, it’s just an idea I remember thinking would have been cool way back in the day when the game was somewhat stagnant if you weren’t raiding. It would also make the sleeping bag worth having at 60, which I think would be a nice bonus for having gotten it.

More over, I think you guys are killing it, this is the first time I’ve been really excited about logging in since WotLK released, the community is also a thousand times less toxic because you’re reputation is tied to one sever. Keep it up!
