To begin,I have had many years with the battlefield series,starting off with bf42…which was able to be played for free (1 map only,wake island)…this was the catch for many people including myself so I went ahead and purchased the game…this was 2002 or 3…dont remember…was a great game,graphics were great for that time period and pretty much everything was simple,even the class roles were simple and while every class could fight,they each had a specific job…I was into bf42 for the longest time,our clan was in quite a few tournaments and all was well…then came bf vietnam…same gameplay,slightly different engine but all in all was the same great gameplay as original…then came the downfall (in my opinion) with bf2…oh I got it,but had to “register” with a third party to even be able to play (i forget the 3rd party name,their now defunct anyway)…
bf2 was totally different than bf42…see this rendition involved auto weapons…by this i mean literally “point in a direction and click” fire a shoulder mounted missile…doesnt matter if your on target or not it would kill someone…fly a jet?..no skill needed as the missiles would search out your target…
I could go on and on about this “new” kind of auto gaming…but another time perhaps…
I personally liked the simple gaming atmosphere of bf1942…every map was fun and every map was filled to capacity…our servers were constantly full…yes we had our share of hackers but the server admins were on top of them (I was one) even with the addition of punkbuster they still found their way inside,albeit in smaller numbers…
a few years ago i installed bf42 again…its free now,and amazingly there are still peeps playing this but theres no new blood,its the same peeps over and over…now…even in the most popular times of bf42 we did have our competition…(not counting the desert storm mods which were great to) but im specifically talking about COD…in that time cod was the wanna be…yes they had a following but wasnt even a blip on the radar in comparison to bf42…i remember peeps saying it was trash back then…i never bothered to even try or look at it…
well…dec 26 2021 i downloaded cod…dec 29 i purchased it…vanguard…but why i bought it was the talk of these huge maps (which i am a fan of) and i figured that this play free for “3” days thing was only a teaser…only small maps…the gameplay on these small maps i do not like whatsoever…i do not like 2v2 3v3 6v6 etc…i like the big maps 20v20 24v24 things like this…
well after i purchased cod vanguard…there were no big maps to my surprise…was the same ole crap small maps that i didnt like to begin with…where was these huge maps that was advertised? all i see here in cod was very small maps with 8v8 6v6 and lower teams all zipping around like hamsters on crack throwing fire bombs and carrying smg’s that i swear run at 10k rpm (amazingly the very same super fast smg’s also have the range and accuracy of the best equipped sniper rifles as well)
but…but…again…where was the big maps that was advertised??
well…all last week…the map selection changed just a little…a new category was available…called “big map blitz” which was in all fairness…20v20 and 24v24 and when i saw this it was all i played…now…the maps “kinda” sucked as theres not alot of places one could go…same in cod was the same in bf42 i choose to play either support or sniper…well…so far in every cod map…there are absolutely no good sniper positions simply because nobody can utilize the whole map…and very limited on things one can hide behind,example…sniper (or anyone else)trying to hide behind a tree is almost impossible because the collision with the tree is literally 5 feet…so no hugging that tree at all…this applies to everything in the game…one really cant hide,especially with the see through objects feature…i think their called traits but forget atm…
essentially unless one likes to manically run around like i said “a hamster on crack” throwing fire bombs never stopping at all while constantly pulling the trigger on a “sniper rifle smg’s that runs at 10k rpm” then you will not have fun…
oh…did i mention the constant “player called bomb strikes”? what about the constant player called “dog attacks that 1 shot you”?
and now…to top all the other “crap” off…the “big map blitz” with 20v20 and 24v24 that was put in selections last week…is now gone…apparently all the maps are put into a rotation and are not individually selectable either by map name or by map size so if you play this…be ready for the 4v4 6v6 manic fest again…
now…i saw the writing on the wall only a few days into this game…cod has a major issue of disconnects and crashes…all of which i experienced from day 1…constantly non stop game crashes…and server snapshot errors…i contacted blizzard support (where i purchased the game) and kindly asked for a refund as i cannot justify paying $79 for the game plus $20 for a rifle skin for a game that i cannot stay connected to…naturally…just like wow…according to blizzard support the problems im experiencing was all my fault or my isp’s fault…it wasnt,and a quick google or whatever search about this problem would have
brought up the fact that this is ongoing and has been across all platforms…second ticket i submitted got the response of …you have played the game to long for a refund…lol…i played this cod for 4 days trying to stay connected…but this doesnt matter…and was told to contact activision support…now in all fairness this is an activision problem but blizzard does promote cod and i did buy it on my blizzard account…well…cod doesnt have forums…what they had is now shut down and they direct you towards facebook,twitter etc etc…
so all in all…to everyone even remotely interested in cod i issue this warning…
the maps just plain suck if you like large scale engagements,the terrible playstyle and the push to make it as quick as possible makes even bf42 from yesteryear more appealing…the graphics are outstanding…a very nice job on graphics and the engine that runs everything but this hardly makes up for gameplay…cod is a waste of money and i wish i had not have purchased this pos…cod states that they want to keep it as realistic as possible…they say this with a straight face to…forgetting about the smg’s that can headshot out past 400 yards at least on the big maps that i personally experienced for 1 week or perhaps the “V2 rocket” that is sent every now and then with a nuclear warhead on it…that kills everyone on map and ends game…a v2 in 1940…very realistic…
again dont waste your money on this…complete dumpster fire with no support…i regret my decision but my playstyle of wanting to play more than 5 min while not running around firebombing everything may be bias,but i do know a quality game that genuinely has good gameplay…and cod isnt it.
