Better professions for a gnome warlock

Planning on maining a Gnome Warlock in Classic, but I want to know what’s better for professions:

Mining/Engineering (to take advantage of racial, plus gadgets)
Tailoring/Enchanting (enchants and gear, obviously)
or
Herbalism/alchemy (Raid materials)

Any ideas?

Not really an answer to it - it depends what you want to do.

Mainly save on gold for raid prep.

In that case likely herb/alch in the long-term.

Fair enough, then.

With the choices given, I agree with Banjaa.

Enchanting is good money, as people will be paying out for their enchanted gear and Engineering is mostly useful for Pvp and CC.

But in the long run, Alch and Herb is best when it comes to making gold. Not only selling the mats but also crafting potions and tonics that a lot of players will use. Speed etc.

Robe of the Void from tailoring is best in slot for a good chunk of time, and worth considering Tailor for that alone. Getting to make your own bags is pretty wonderful as well…

Beyond that, Engineer is pretty great for PvP and I think Alchemy probably gets more usage for PvE

Enchanting depends on the player, I never really liked trying to go out of my way to farm enchanting recipes, or stand in town spamming for enchant sales for tips… but it was a pretty wonderful tool for AH farming while in BG queus, since you could just sit around buying greens/blues and DEing them for profits.

That said, I’ll probably skip enchanting this time around, since my OG toons didn’t have Engi, and it’s pretty wonderful for pvp.

Okay, looked this up, and it’s BoP, meaning if I want it, I need to have tailoring on the Warlock to even make it. How does it stack up against the raid tier chests?

Two gathering professions to sell the mats.

I am partial to skinning/mining.

Mhm. But pots were a must have back then and why Alch would be a good choice too.

True, if the goal was money making though i would think two gathering professions, although alchemy might be a better idea for the transmutes at 60.

You’ll use it until ZG launches and you wear the bloodvine set, which is bis until Naxx if memory serves (and requires 300 tailor for the set bonus that puts it over the top)

But even without Bloodvine set, it wasn’t uncommon to see warlocks wearing robe of the void into Naxx, it’s really really good for when you get it.

Yep, that too. People stocked up on pots a lot. Mana, Swiftness, Damage, Defense, Health. Most of all for longer/harder runs.

You make excellent points.

So a good assumption is assume 1 enchant per raid tier per piece. You can get everything from DEing on a level 5 alt. Tipping for most enchants can be less then 5 gold and hardly any will go for more then 50. Your average cost (with mats provided) a tier is probably 75g.

Engineering will have a net benefit that other professions can not provide. I wont go over the cost/benefits of engineering especially in raids when i feel its minimal.

Alch/herb has probably 10g a raid night if you dont flask. If you do flask its more likely 90g. Figure even 2 months a tier you are looking at 80g-760g a raid tier (again kinda assumes you run consimables once you have stuff on farm).

So, you’re saying it’d be easier to just buy the enchants?

Yeah. Herbalism will make more for you then enchantimg will. Not 1 enchant in vanilla is personal only (think they were added in wrath) the cost of deing your own greens is stupidly low (like 30 minutes of leveling and like 10s). Honestly finding 1-2 black lotus’ a raid tier will be more beneficial then enchanting.

All of this is also just on benefits of having the professions. Im not gonna say whats best with making money necause you could make more with both depending on how you sell stuff.

pet classes come in really handy for gathering professions, cause they can keep mobs (that are almost always positioned near node spawns) off you while you pick the herbs or mine the ore.

so i’d say, all things considered, herb and alchemy.

I’d pick up tailoring, make some decent bags and the robe and then go alchemy

The ONLY profession for gnomes is learherworking so you can make footballs. That way we have something to punt other than you.
