Better Hot take: It's not the lack of GDKP but vanilla's community is awful

Title says it all in the simplest format.

But if you want a better description. In general the vanilla community is just god awful. Because the game itself REGARDLESS OF YOUR OR MY OPINION is horribly designed. It does not reward players fast enough which leads to a lot of infighting within guilds, loot drama etc. A simple yet exceedingly effective way to fix this loot drama was to increase the amount of loot drops per boss kill as well as update a lot of loot to be more effective (a vast majority of loot from molten core is viewed as worthless due to a lack of secondary stats like crit and hit rating as well as laughably low amounts of spellpower). 2 pieces of loot per boss kill divided among 40 players is honestly a hilarious ratio, not pathetic just honestly hilarious that people defend it then assume it’ll work out to where everyone is happy. Because it -totally- worked out well back in 2004. There was -never- any loot drama then… eyeroll

The truly toxic aspect of the vanilla community is the #nochanges bullcrap. BECAUSE AND I WAS THERE BACK THEN SO I KNOW THIS TO BE TRUE. WE ASKED FOR CHANGES.
Think we didn’t? The proof is in Zul’gurub. Players commented how essentially casters were falling behind in dps because there was no spell hit rating and honestly there really isn’t much in phases 1-3. A belt, necklace, a trinket and I think the tier 1 sets for mage and warlock had 1% each. So what does blizzard do? In the new raid they release there is almost a whole 8 or 9 items added with spell hit rating. Caster gear within its initial design was just stacking spellpower but players asked for a change and received one. Similar thing can be said about warrior tanking sets as the first two lack hit rating and you need lots of hit rating to ensure you can hold threat on bosses. Doesn’t matter how high that defense rating was if the boss doesn’t hit you.
But now if you so much as mention an issue or irregularity in classic vanilla you get flamed but a swarm of sweaty tryhards who refuse to see any change to their nostalgia.

It’s not gdkp. It’s you being the worst possible human beings in a social multiplayer videogame.

Unhinged drunk post but not wrong, vanilla is pretty garbage.

No, it’s the modern generation, this has nothing to do with WoW. This is how the world is now, it’s the Age of Entitlement.

GDKP will not make the community better, it just makes it more anti-social really. Sure you get groups together, but it’s just pugs that don’t talk to each other.

Yeah, getting loot the original way that was intended can be a slog, but once you finally get that piece of gear you’ve been after, it such a great feeling. You can’t get that same feeling when you go into a raid and just buy it outright. Same thing with the AH, just not the same.

Buying gear just takes the fun out of it, it’s literally pay to win, and rewards those who have the highest disposable income. Do we remember the Diablo Immortal debacle? Where the whales were in complete control of that game, while the F2P players were having an awful time.

All you needed was the title, sums up the issue perfectly.

I disagree with a lot of your analysis OP, but the title remains true.

This is what made WoW feel good to play and made it fun, putting in effort and getting a valuable reward made it feel good. If you shortcut that, it doesn’t feel good anymore.

False.
It’s the current culture of gaming, groomed by the current culture of developers.
P2W, micro transaction, day one DLC nightmare.

Oh please, people were having fits about water texture changes prior to 2019 Classic much less changes in the actual gameplay right here on these forums.

As someone who plays feral druid on both horde and alliance I have a full laundry list of things they should have done better for us, such as having tier sets that actually benefited ferals, being able to use consumes in shapeshifted forms, being able to open doors without shifting out of form, being able to get benefit out of windfury totem, etc. etc. but instead of demanding changes to a game that was about nostalgia I accepted the jank state of it as the benefits of the game were far greater than what we were given in retail.

The classic seasonal servers have done a good job at experimenting with changes which I believe will culminate in a Classic+ style of servers so my guess is if you can’t tolerate what you know Classic to be, just wait for + servers or go to retail.

Not to mention automatic crowd pummeler

Same.
Also agree with the seasonal experiments observation. Not so sure about an actual C+ since I believe that might involve more development than they are going to be allowed time/money to make happen but a few one-offs for seasonal? Absolutely. Will they choose from the list of options touched upon in the most recent survey? Signs point to yes.

Yeah I mean loot is garbage in classic.

40 players and a boss drops 2 pieces of loot… TWO.

Seriously?

It should 4-6 pieces at a minimum.

That’s why GDKP is so big in classic… and so loved.

Because loot is so ridiculously rare in classic… it makes it valuable.

If the game actually dropped loot… Then GDKPs would be meh because it wouldn’t be so impossible to get any kind of gear.

feel free to stop playing :expressionless:

he says you suck.

So basically…“I want the loot NOW! Gimmie! I hate not getting the loot I want immediately!” God forbid you actually wait until it drops and get all excited about it.

I would feel no excitement or any type of dopamine rush after buying a piece of gear or a weapon for a few hundred gold. I get disappointed as much as the next guy when I don’t win a roll, when you finally do, it’s a glorious feeling.

He is part of the problem

I get what you are saying, but man rng can be awful.

Keep in mind I’m not a naxx raider, but when I target weapons from the other raids they just never drop. Since 2019 I have seen 2 lok’amirs, 2 c’thun 2h axe, 0 c’thun healing maces, and 0 ashkandis drop.

The main problem is bliz trained the playerbase too well

behavior modded them all up gave them instant gratification, magically appear at some dungeon, buy gold, buy buy buy, and they kept hitting you over the head with new mounts and achievements and everything is on fire sparkling and a black hole at the same time,

Then they come to classic and have to walk to the inn and hate it. maybe the point of classic and classic plus is not to be like the players bliz made.

Not getting the loot means you can keep running the dungeon hoping for something. Running with something that can drop for you is more fun.

Caving in to retail defeats the whole purpose, if it doesn’t feel good for you, its not for you, hey that’s the motto of classic, not everything is for everybody, hope you get lucky.

PUG were non existant nacn then. GDPmade it happen. Like it or not thats the trutb
