Better Character Customization

I’m sure someone’s mentioned this before, but one feature at the top of my “want list” is better character customization at the character creation screen (and subsequently barber shops). The character customization interface for WoW was dated in 2004, and it’s definitely showing its age in 2019. There are new models, and they look nice, but your variety in customization is very limited. I would like to be able to do things like this:

Set Facial Features Independently

The last thing I want is sliders for facial features. I spend waaaay too long when a game gives me sliders on those. However, I’d like to be able to change nose/mouth/eyes/facial structure independently of each other. Like, being able to scroll through different noses. Maybe pick different eye colors too? (i.e. If my night elf male could have lore-friendly silver eyes, I’d be elated.)

Color Wheel for Skin Tones

Maybe skin tone can be chosen on a slider? Like one of those color wheels, but a restricted one such that players can only chose colors that make sense for that race. (e.g. No green humans). For races that have fur, you can let people color the patches of fur independently. So, for like… tauren, you could select a spot pattern, then color the spots and base fur independently.

Customize Emotes

Maybe custom emotes? Like a night elf with the undead dance? Or a human with an orc salute? Or just giving us different options for each race?

Different Body Types/Morphologies

I know it’d be a massive amount of of work, but being able to pick different body types would be awesome too. Going from fat to skinny to average to buff might be hard to do, but a slider or buttons that scale your entire character model - so they could be short/average/tall - would be great!

Tattoos for All Characters

Also, maybe off-topic, but can we do tattoos? Sure, they can go as like barbershop options that are built into the character, but… It’d be really cool if they were something that scribes can make. Then, either make a new armor slot for them, or make them a buff. Or hell, maybe scribes make them, then your character unlocks them, then they can be applied at the barber shop.

Basically, you’d be missing a huge opportunity if you didn’t give this to scribes somehow.

Class-Specific Customization

Class-specific customization options would be amazing. Like… Giving your druid antlers, or a halo to your priest/paladin, or fel-green eyes to your warlock, or scars to your warrior/hunter (or scars to any character would be awesome too).

What do you guys think? Would anyone else want some of these features? How high on your “want list” are they?

I like it! I would appreciate gender-specific sliders like crotch bulge for males, and breast size for females.

A height slider would be appreciated. Change your default height, a feature not applicable for dwarves, vulpera, goblins, or gnomes. I want to change my Blood Elf warrior’s height to make him seem 8 feet tall, and I want him to have thick chiseled muscles! I mean, imagine seeing a Blood Elf with the physique of Broly from Dragonball Super Broly rushing to you!

I would also like voice options for my characters! Cam Clarke is a phenomenal VA, but hearing him from EVERY SINGLE ONE of my male Blood Elf characters is a bit… lacking… Add more VAs to do the lines as voice options, like Vic Mignogna to do voices for Blood Elf, Undead, Human, Orcs, and even Night Elves! The VA we heard for Garrosh and Tepartos in the Lightforged Allied race questline was awesome! I want him as a voice option for Draenei and Orcs! I would love to hear more voices from each race! More vocal variety!

Example: Imagine hearing Mr. T’s voice coming from a Night Elf warrior sporting a mohawk! One of the VA exclusive jokes could be “It ain’t easy bein’ a Night Elf Mohawk!”. Or to hear Ozzy’s voice from an Undead who happens to play a warlock, his /flee emote could have a VA feature like Ozzy screaming “SHARON!”.

I’d also like to have the option to select scars for my characters. I want to make my still young Blood Elf warrior sport a scar over his right eye, and my dashing rogue sport a few scars, like one on the left cheek, and diagonally on the chest! Maybe have my Orc warrior be COVERED in scars as an almost tapestry of his battles!

I kinda dig this, being able to “select a voice” for your character would be awesome, and that manipulates how their voiced emotes sound. Actually, change that from “kinda dig” to “really dig”.

There is almost zero chance for any such large scale changes. I am always amazed when I play any Korean MMO made in the last ten years with the level of control you have over your characters appearance. But we won’t see anything like that is this version of WoW.

Back on the voice thing, I wonder how much they could accomplish with the same recording, but manipulating it in a sound editor. Like… If they slow it down by 5%, will it sound significantly deeper to sound “different”? It wouldn’t be a lot of work.

There is not one single reason why we need either of these sliders.

Well… I mean, that’s kinda why I’m posting this. I don’t know what the best way to reach out and make the Dev’s aware, but I figure that not saying anything is the best way to not let anyone know. I’m sure “they don’t read the forums” and whatnot, but…

That’s not a bad idea, though! I mean… If there’s hair dye, why can’t any character have any color hair? ((It’s a bit out there, but Goblins/Gnomes are typically the stylists, so like… NOT THAT FAR OUT.))

World of Warcraft never has and never will have a huge array of customization options, this game isn’t meant to be a dress up game.

Isn’t one of the major aspects of the game, much like pet battles. Just because it’s there doesn’t mean it’s a huge part of the game.

I don’t want “realistic” graphics but more customization would definitely make the game more fun. I don’t think we need too many details like every facial feature, but definitely more faces, hairstyles, and body types. Also we should be able to color our gear.

Mostly agree! I just want to be able to select nose, eye, mouth, independently of each other.

I’ve said it before, but I’d like predetermined body types.

For both men and women, you could have options along the lines of: Slim, Average (what we have now), heavy, muscular. And for women you can include a voluptuous option. Other games from years ago did something along those lines.

I’m glad you support my suggestion! <3 I mean, women realistically have breast cup size variation across the board from flat to large enough to hold and even hide small objects like medical supplies, wallets, coin purses, etc. Men also have variation in the size of genitals, some of us are endowed to optimally, while rare cases suffer from the extremes that either do not stimulate, or inly inflict pain or even damage that would require immediate medical attention. The slider could be addressed as “Appeal”, as a reference to the Saints Row “Sex Appeal” slider which functions in the same way for men and women. For men, it just makes the bulge in his pants larger or smaller, while for women is simply makes breasts larger or smaller.

Thank you for your support! I believe we should have numerous VA options for our characters. I mean, imagine hearing Cam’s voice coming out of a human? Or a Void Elf(If we don’t already… I haven’t checked the credits…), maybe hear his voice coming from a Tauren!

I’d be thrilled to hear Vic Mignogna’s Broly voice coming from my Blood Elf warrior!

Maybe hear the voice of Gul’dan from the Warcraft movie coming out of my Orc death knight! Or perhaps from a human warlock!

SO MANY POSSIBILITIES! Blizzard could make bank on it! Even using the VAs they hired for Overwatch to add supplemental voices for WoW races! I can imagine hearing Soldier 76 or Reaper as Orcs, or D.Va as a blood elf or night elf! Somehow Lucio’s voice coming from a gnome would be downright hilarious!

Then you’re not being creative enough. For one, women have various cup sizes. No two women share the exact same cup size, that’s why bras come in different cup sizes! Because breasts are not all the same exact size!

The necessity for a gender-based slider is cosmetic since WoW shares the same level of actual nudity as the Saints Row franchise(albeit more conservative by comparison), and it gets concerning when you literally see every other guy has the same smoothed crotch as you. Some of us want to compare and say “HA! I’m bigger than you!” as a somewhat immature joke.

Honestly, my big 3 customization options I’d like to see are voice selection, height adjustment, and gender-based sliders.
