Beta UI and Addons Update

Immediately in this first day of testing, we’ve seen feedback on how currently, there’s a complete lockdown on the ability for addons to parse chat and addon-comms channels while in instances. We’re seeing it break addons that support loot councils, break timers, and other benign communications (e.g. sharing raid notes or M+ keystone information).

We agree that this is starting out excessively broad, and we’re going to make changes to only apply the new logic while there is an active raid encounter or M+ run underway. Our goal will be to make it so that tools that facilitate sharing information before or after combat won’t be impacted.

And we’ll update our Beta development notes when the above is implemented.

Can we please implement blizzard addon replacements a couple patches before removing all of this in general? I’m scared :frowning:

What works well so far:

  • nameplates “big debuff” feature - excellent
  • cooldown manager customization - excellent (covers 90% of my needs with weak auras in terms of basic UI)
  • personal resource display having a fixed position on screen (not relative to player character) is an excellent change - allowing you to position it between cooldown manager bars

What falls short:

  • no “big debuff” feature on frames (player, enemy, etc…) making it hard to see important information unless you specifically look at nameplates
  • Cooldown manager’s Buff tracking feature offers too few buffs (only throughput ones) and lacks defensive buffs (Survival of the Fittest, Aspect of the Turtle, and similar)
  • If you enable “Show scrolling combat text for self” the static text messages (such as “Kill Shot!”) go under the cooldown manager and there is no configuration in Edit mode to move this text elsewhere
  • Cooldown manager configuration not saved on logout (bug)
  • Personal resource display lacks customization for which bars to show (health, resource or both)

Please bring back spreading name plates-
also, please give nameplates an option to display friendly team mates are using power ups, and when they’re CC’d

I didn’t see a dedicated thread to it, but for the damage meters, I understand wanting to trim it down so it’s not such a memory hog like details but there’s some bits I’d love to see.

Damage taken to be able to figure out what’s hurting the raid of the tank as much is a great feature.

Dispels are nice because being able to tell where we need to shore up dispels on fights like Fyrakk or soulbinder is really helpful.

Adding to that point, please add dispel back to click casting and let us have more spells like natures swiftness as an option.

Another damage meter add I think would help a lot would be a smart interrupt counter. One that includes not only direct interrupts but silences, stuns, fear, etc and displacements to all targets stopped from casting. Right now in live you can’t tell with details if someone stops a whole bunch of casts with shadow fury or using typhoon and such.

Anyways, these are a few things I think going into the blizzard damage meters that would be super helpful!

Hello,

It’s week 3 and Cooldown manager still doesn’t have an updated list of auras that can be tracked:

  • a lot of removed auras/abilities still there
  • a lot of new auras/abilities not there yet

The rate at which updates are happening is discouraging.

Currently the Utility Cooldowns populates new cooldowns upwards. I have this UI feature below my resource bar. So when switching between specs that have more utility cooldowns, they cover the resource bar. When lowering it so it doesn’t cover the resource bar and switching back to the first spec, there is a gap. Can we choose if we want it to populate upwards or downwards?

Can we get the option to hide the character portrait from the main health bar?

Can we get the option to hide action bars when mounted?
Can Action Bar 1 get the Visibility options all the other action bars do?

I hate to say it, but I DESPISE the nameplate options available. I currently use Kui due to its range of customization. The Blizzard format uses percentages where Kui lets me set pixel heights/widths. I’m old, so let me set the HEIGHT of my nameplate without EXTENDING its width. That’s just the beginning of my needs. I change the color of the bars to more match my shadow priest’s purple desires. I remove the frame that is a constant source of visual interruption for me.

If you have to set up an “Advanced Options” section, do it but stop taking away the ability to customize the game for individual needs. What you have is so frustratingly limiting.

I have exactly the same issues!

These predefined sizes are terrible!! By the time nameplates are as high as I want them, they get so wide that they cover half of my screen.

So far nameplates have been a disaster.

Did a M+5 Pit of Saron on beta and and a M+ on live to compare and contrast. Both with base blizzard UI, no addons at all (even on live).

Tank role, (Guardian druid)

Issues on beta

  1. Nameplates text is tiny
  2. Nameplates cast bar text is sooo small unless you make the nameplates huge
  3. Text on nameplates size should be changeable
  4. There is no good indicator for threat on nameplates on beta, on live there is some flashing
  5. Party frame (in raid style party frames) are huge on beta and don’t show me useable information. There’s like 5 debuffs at all times like mark of the wild and stuff that just don’t mean anything and cover up decurses and other stuff.
  6. THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT AS A TANK, Nameplates on live have a buffer that lets you click near them to swap targets when you right click, beta doesn’t have this so swapping mobs in combat is a nightmare, tbh between nameplates sizes, giant combat text ( wish there was an option to remove the last 3 digits place on damage numbers and turn it into a little k), huge packs, I can’t even see the mobs let alone know where they are. It’s super unreadable.
  7. No way to see group interrupts
  8. Range indicator on blizz party frames makes me want to kms, they flash on and off constantly and are place exactly where debuffs would be and cover all the other information. Please just let there be an option to make people out of range opaque like on live or have no indicator for out of range (since tanks and dps don’t usually care).

I’ve been playing this game since Vanilla Beta.

You do not have the skill sets on your development team to meet the demands & iteration required by the community to your User Interface.

Addon developers have over a decade of progress that quite frankly outpaces Blizzards internal development cycle.

What we’ve seen so far would not suffice as quality front end by third party development standards.

currently the personal resource bar is missing the track buff setting which it has on live. Can we get those settings back?

Please, allow us to move windows without the need of an addon (currently MoveAny).

For example, the Talent/Spellbook panel is too big on certain screen resolutions, and you can’t even drag spells from there to the hotbars when the panel obscures them. By moving them, I can place it in a better position.

Also for some reason the quest panel is better for me to read when I move it to the central-right of the screen. Something I can only do with the addon.

I guess it won’t be an issue since that addon will probably not be affected by the new limitations, but to me is such a basic feature that should be a baseline option.

The buff tracker randomly rearranges my buffs. For context I ran a key and everything was fine. Zoned out and they were in a random order.

Just adding another voice to this concern.

While the little bar of fiery yellow flame transitioning to red is visually nice, it’s not a very stand-out indicator of “you are grabbing or have grabbed aggro.” The threat meter of the default frames in Retail is better, so Midnight Beta’s approach seems like a step backwards.

Retail clearly shows me I have 3% threat on my current target. If that jumps to 85% I’m swapping targets.
Imgur

Beta gives me a non-numeric indicator that jumps from yellow to red with no real warning (I guess you want me to swap as soon as that tiny, subtle indicator turns yellow, but it’s hard to see in a swarm of Nameplates on a big pack; also I’m a paladin and most of my spells clutter the screen with yellow effects making this even less stand-out). It really feels like a step backwards from the Retail image above that clearly shows a numeric value on the current target frame (I mean your new indicator is only on the mob, it’s not even duplicated on the current target frame?!).
Imgur

Returning the existing numeric indicator in addition to the progressive and/or flash non-numeric indicators would be fine. The numeric indicator alone is better than the progressive/flash options (although flashing the edges of the entire screen would likely stand-out more than a tiny indicator on the mob’s nameplate).

If you start to drag a spell, all the native action bars will come to the front and no longer be obscured. At least that’s how it works for me, but if you use an Add-on to modify your action bar appearance, that might not work.

I have experienced a rather major issue with the UI the team as probably not considered. When I try to share my UI on the Beta to basically extract it the copy to clipboard is truncating the text by quite a bit as there is a character limit on the default clipboard. There is no work around and this makes exporting my UI possible. I had hoped to find a created file with the saved settings but I am unable to easily locate one using my HUD’s saved Layout name.

With the new HUD going forward being a major feature can we please get both a functional and easy way to save and share our HUD as the current feature to use the clipboard is not going to work.
