Is anyone else considering subbing just for a chance to get into a beta?
You don’t need a sub for beta invites. You just need to opt in on your account settings.
Haven’t we all wondered if there’s a secret variable in beta selection for WoW betas that gives you a higher chance if you’re subbed?
Before Cata, I got into every beta and I was constantly subbed and playing a lot.
After Cata I was only subbed for 1-2 months during an expansion (at the very most) and haven’t received a beta invite since.
I was unsubbed/out of time towards the end of some expansions because of boredom and didn’t get into the betas of the upcoming expansions.
I got into BfA Alpha after having had gametime throughout the entirety of Legion.
It’s possible they choose random invites from multiple groups of people. IE: invite X number of players with active gametime and Y number without who are signed up for beta. It’s also possible they do invites from a “loyalty” group and only count people who have had active continuous gametime for at least X months, in which case subbing right now wouldn’t make any difference.
I don’t particularly care about getting into a Classic beta because I don’t want to level slowly in a beta only to have to start over on release.
The only use Classic beta would be for me is setting up my UI ahead of launch and possibly testing out different classes at 60 if they let us create pre-made 60s in the beta.
I was unsubbed at the end of Legion and got a BFA invite. Logged into BFA beta looked around saw the horrid UI changes and logged right on out.
i always get a beta invite (weird flex bro), doesnt matter if im subbed or not. I bet your system specs have a lot more to do with it…ie very high-end or very low-end pc specs. But seeing as how classic is super low-end, that may not hold true.
I resubbed because the gaming market is barren of anything that held my interest for over a month.
At least in wow I can work on achievements and dink around.
I did, however, buy a new SSD for a clean install location for Classic and another game I’m waiting on.
If I was Blizzard I wouldn’t send beta invites to already subscribed accounts as they already are paying customers. Old time customers from Vanilla times or long time frozen, inactive accounts will be my target group to increase the subscription numbers.
No, in more than 10 chars.
I always thought it was the other way around.
Blizzard already gets money from the saps still subbed to their game. No need to collect their feedback; they’re just gonna keep paying. What they really want is feedback from the people who don’t play so they can get their money, too.
no. i can’t play private servers because of that feeling of “i’m going to lose this character eventually” sure as hell got nothing in me for a beta.
It’s impossible to tell. I think they are aware though, that the vast majority of their target audience is not currently subbed. It wouldn’t really be wise to use a sub as any form of criteria. I could see the amount of retail players complaining and falsely bug reporting. Perhaps since everything is bnet integrated, they’ll do people with (x amount of posts in Classic forums, like 100+) or something as a priority then filter in others. Some of us have a vanilla account even if we don’t play it. Both my accounts (including my vanilla one) are on this Bnet. Maybe having a vanilla account can be a second priority list, people who were here…
I don’t think an active sub is a great idea in this case. They’d miss to much of the base, that refuse to sub to retail.
You are right though… it does raise the question!
