I purposefully left this out and went with ‘pretty much everyone’ for some leeway. Unfortunately there’s no way to know for sure without a blue post. I’ve heard of people without active subs being able to view the servers just like the rest of us, so I really have no idea if you can get on without a sub or not. The best way to tell will have to be once it starts tomorrow if people are posting getting online and if you have no sub and can’t join a server, then you’ll need a sub.
I thought it seemed clear from the first sentence of their post: “This stress test will be accessible to anyone with an active World of Warcraft game account in the Americas & Oceania region”
But if the consensus is that its still unclear, I’ll just wait til tomorrow to see.
They said that for closed beta, as well, however people without a sub have gotten into closed beta, reportedly, at least. I’d rather avoid saying ‘No sub no access’ if it’s not correct, it’s far better for people to just check. So on one hand I’m not giving people false hope if they have no sub, and on the other I’m not saying they can’t, and then if it turns out they can they miss out because they didn’t check.
To be fair, it did say “Beta & Stress Test”
Fairly easy to misinterpret.
I think it depends on what Blizzard means by ‘active.’ Does it mean you must have a recurring sub in place, or does it mean you can simply have a cancelled sub that still has time on it? I believe your account remains active until the sub expires and you revert to starter edition, so I’d assume that you don’t need to have a subscription in place but you do need to have some play time left on a cancelled sub that covers the period. That’s my understanding, which of course could be wrong.
But the fact that it no longer says “Stress Test”, even after yesterday they posted that its visible so you can uninstall it, automatically means you get Beta?
Ah huh. That’s the conclusion to draw
See? The threshold on it is entirely unknown. At least to me and most people it is. When in doubt, just check and see if you’re able to get online once it starts.
I cancelled my sub but it has until some time in mid July on it, but as you say, won’t know until tomorrow :-D.
I was able to download and launch the classic client to see a list of empty servers, I haven’t had an active sub in 6 months.
I’m assuming when the servers come up i will able to pick one.
They mean that you have an account that lets you play a Level 21+ character on a server in the Americas region.
Its not that hard.
There’s a difference between “I can’t log in” and “I can log in but I get rejected when picking a server”.
That’s the running assumption, despite Blizzard saying it requires an active subscription. But keep in mind it could form a block on you once the test starts or could prevent someone without a sub from entering the servers. The only Blizzard word is that you’ll need a sub to test, but, people without subs being able to see the servers suggests contrary. We won’t know until it starts.
I would assume you’ll get rejected at the server selection.
This may be a bug of the Trial edition though.
My prediction is that this update will make classic work just like the retail client. That is, you can log into a server and aren’t blocked from getting into game until selecting a character to login. Because BFA allows free-trial up to level 20, this might mean that for Classic you can get all the way up to creating a character or logging in before it tells you that you need to resub. We’ll see though.
Thanks for the clarification, albeit with your usual bad attitude.
Given you were wrong about the client and OC realm times, forgive me if I don’t subscribe to whatever rubbish comes out of your mouth.
Sure, but the question “What is an active account” has been answered by Blizzard so many times, it should be a FAQ answer.
I mostly wasn’t necessary for the 63k or so players who might want to do this.
I do see it might have been necessary for some but they didn’t bother reading anyway.
It is perfectly clear - you just need game time on the account. A lot of people never have subs and just pay month to month and they got in to the previous tests fine.
That’s my assumption from the start, but others disagree and have other interpretation
I am pretty sure if you didn’t have game time you wouldn’t even have those options on your launcher to download.
If I cared I could actually just switched over to my other account and check but meh.
No, people without subs can select it, download it, and view the realms. Being people with no gametime whatsoever.
