Beta PVP Observations. Ret/feral/ ect

So we all know the patch is 3.3.5 and I would like to give a little feedback for people trying to decide what to play in pvp. Not in depth all though I can answer questions as beta is still up.

PVE = doesn’t matter you can clear content with literally any class/spec in wrath. If you want to top dmg meters just look at tier list.

Most classes are well balanced and rounded in wrath at this patches time frame.

RET - Ret is in it’s most nerfed state in wrath of lich king in this patch. People who think rets going to be OP are in for a let down. It is a noob stomper spec at this point great for entry and low level rated arena. At a higher rating you’re one of the easiest specs to shut down. Your burst will get stolen/purged/ cc’d almost instantly with high rated players. Playing around 2kish is really rough and you need a lot of vocal communication with your partners to make ret work. If you don’t like talking in discoord dont play ret. If you enjoy fast paced 2’s games at lower ratings then ret is crazy fun.

Feral - Feral is in a much better place but it is probably the HIGHEST skill cap class in Wrath. You have the tools to counter almost everything but knowing how and when to use them makes this spec hard to master. Very high single target, great CC. At 2k ish you become more of a support bot for your team with off heals and cc. Its a Hit and Run type of playstyle. Keeping savage roar up in 3’s is a pain in the butt. It is a 30% damage buff which is HUGE. Your bleeds hit hard and can crit so the gameplay changes from TBC to wrath greatly.

Ele Sham - Busted OP burst. You will get Line of sighted a ton. Nobody is going to sit and watch you cast that big damage. You will work in tangent with your team to get off unhealable burst but when you do… Yea people disappear. I didn’t try out lock but I played arena with a Destro lock… Destro +Ele sham are going to make people rage quit. Lava burst and chaos bolts, just get ready. I am predicted this will be the most OP top 3’s comp in wrath… L S D is going to ruin “wow” lives.

Warrior - Not great at warrior but it seems just as good as it always is if not better. They hit like trucks with arm pen.

Rogue - Another high skill capped class. Unreal control with shadow dance if played properly. Much less damage than TBC but still a solid choice. Can do some scary burst early without full pvp sets.

Hunter - Didn’t see many hunters at higher rating. MM seems kind of meme. To easy to LOS and Leeway is still in game and seems like the distance is even larger. Good cc, good damage. Limited comps.

DK - A DK still hits like a truck but is also in its most nerfed version. They’re easier to kite than most but if they connect it hurts in conjunction with a warriors Mortal strike. You will see A LOT of TSG Warr+DK comps early on.

Priest - Good Discp priests are a PITA to kill. I don’t play one but played vs a lot of them. They die much easier in 3’s than a holy pala but they’re borderline broken in 2s.

All in All history seems to repeat itself here. This is going to be a “Hairy you’re a wizard” expansion. Lots of really strong bursty casters.

Melee will dominate early on but once you get full pvp sets rolling casters will pretty much be top dogs in wrath.

What is your point?

Hunters are anything but meme lol

Meh from what I seen they were fairly easy to deal with tbh. Maybe the ones I seen just weren’t very good. I suppose that is a possibility.

War doesn’t really get seriously online with armor pen till icc+; they’ll still be strong before however. Hunter is real good in wrath as well, as you said maybe just the sample size you saw.

How are Resto Shams?

On that note, how do you feel the item lvl squish will affect them? I’ve heard there’s a squish to item lvl being done on later raid/pvp tiers.

I actually doubt the squish will be a thing, it was just a proposed change, but if so it will directly nerf them a touch. Come that point with fully bis bis 277/284 gear war’s do become monsters so may not be a terrible idea after all haha

Ya cause I’m hearing armor pen is being nerfed and the squish is coming in, I just dislike the idea of a caster meta. Hopefully melee aren’t killed off by this.

I wouldn’t listen too heavy to where you’re hearing these things quite yet. Nothings really changed and all that we have is a proposed idea from a community council meeting. If I were a betting man I’d wager on the “remains the same” side of ilvl. Armor pen would only change by being less of due to decreased ilvl, not a nerf to how the stat works

Resto is an offensive healer in wrath. Purge and 6 second wind sheer is gross. You have to learn to fake cast really well or you will get stuck in a bad situation of getting pummeled. Guardian totem reduces cd on Grounding totem so thats nice. You get the talent that reduces silences by 30% which is great if you do get kicked.

You can play a bunch of different comps so its pretty well rounded.

Hopefully prot pally is a viable and effective pvp spec still, because I’m too apathetic to bother changing spec and gear.

Preg build is good on private but i don’t think people are gunna like it. Its all auto attack and judge. You’re support dishing out dmg at times. Its great open world but it didn’t really translate to beta that well. Maybe the couple of guys playing it just didn’t know how to properly.

thats cause its heavily gear dependant, becomes good s8+

What about mage? I keep hearing mages aren’t good in season 5 due mostly to low haste (usually private server people saying this). I’m a little surprised because it seems mages are always pretty strong.

mages have never had a season where they weren’t really competitive thats why you don’t see anyone saying anything about them lol

They have never randomly bounced an idea off of the community. The squish is coming, they just gave us a warning and pretended like our opinion matters, as they always do.

Shield of righteousness attacks and also instant cast Exorcisms are part of Pret.

I just don’t think its going to translate very well into blizz servers. I mean who knows for sure. There was a lot of things wrong on warmane like omen of clarity procs but we shall see I guess. I am for more specs being viable for sure but people thought preg was a toxic spec. I thought it was funny watching 3 people chase a preg pala across the map trying to kill it.
