Beta Expectations

Some people seem to have a poor memory, so here’s the thread from the last beta where people had the exact same issues.

This is not to discourage feedback about things not working, but maybe we can do it with less hyperbole.

People are trying to play Beta as if it’s live early access.

They don’t want to test it. They just want to play the expansion.

Testing is testing. Beta is going to have a boatload of problems. That’s why it’s Beta.

People also need to actually report bugs, but I know that won’t happen.

i know its a beta but how many betas do they have to do to get logging into the game right. I expect some bugs but this is just poor planning if the beta login and character creation cant handle this load. its not like they didn’t know the exact number of people that would have accses.

have to acualy be able to log in to test.

And you will. But welcome to launch of Betas everywhere: it can take days to stabilize it and get everyone going. That’s part of the testing.

I just checked and i have it

While i totally agree with your post, some of this has to be put on blizz marketing. including beta access in a more expensive version of the expansion will draw in a lot of players that will use it as early access.

If you ask people to pay to join and have a giant countdown to it, it’s not unreasonable to expect to be able to get on and play it.

People expect bugs in the game, not the servers.

Agreed. Which is why I never wanted them to do that again after Mists. lol

Well when everyone is trying to log in at once, you gonna have problems lol

you can argue that hyping it up and having a timer was intentional to stress test the servers. who knows. i assume incompetence though.

I don’t know about you, but I have been playing games long enough to expect test servers to melt down when they allow the entire pre-purchase group to access them. They said “never again” after MoP Beta with the Annual Pass. Then, they did it again. This happens with pretty much every massive log in rush. This is also why Early Access to real release is a mixed blessing.

This is what happens to the test servers - they are NOT the Live servers and don’t have the same resources and architecture.

We will eventually get in, but it won’t be stable, ever. It will go up and down as the test folks need it to. It will get patches. It will get wiped. All that is expected.

That is actually possible. The amount of data collection done on the test servers is way higher than Live servers so I am sure the server engineering teams are def watching and collecting all that info. They want to have the Live servers prepared so they don’t handle things like the test servers.

Anyway. I still can’t copy a char :frowning:

I know that system is currently under high load right now though so I can cope. Maybe.

You’re not on the live servers. You are trying to connect to/play in an inherently unstable environment.

If you choose to pay to try an unfinished product, expect all kinds of issues - including not even being able to access it for any number of reasons.

Yikes, I tried a couple times (all saying it failed), just logged in again to check and I have several copies now…

I guess people trying to make many copies could definitely be causing it to be slow.

ooooh. So you are saying maybe I should stop doing the copy attempts. Heh. I just need the ones with rep for housing items!

Yeah I was about to post the same thing. I was just scrolling youtube and saw they put out a freaking beta trailer! “Jump in! Make yourself at home!” Etc. Of course it’s just for the preorder ad at the end. But it’s such nonsense. It’s setting entirely wrong expectations.

I mean, have you ever tried to log in during an expansion launch? It’s pretty bad.

I can create level 1s and the new race but no level 80s and for some reason I cant post on the beta forum.

not only ad got email said about the same thing so some of the problem is on blizzard side.
