Actually with the shared data folder it makes perfect sense.
With MPQ files the naming sequence meant you could easily guess what data files were for which builds so hence you can do a manual uninstall to a particular patch if you wished (this was back in the day before we had garbage collection on the launcher)
But with CASC the data files are named with different numbered extensions depending on how your particular install installed the files. So there’s no guarantee that the data files you would delete would be the right ones to remove Classic beta from your system.
You could of course try removing the _classic_beta_ folder and hope the BDA senses that and from that infers that you would like to remove the classic beta. But that’s assuming some other part of the BDA doesn’t restore the executables and hence partially restore that folder.
Restoring the Beta & Stress test selection is really the only sane and safe way for Blizzard to offer an uninstall option for those who were in the Stress Test.
Respectfully, MVP. I don’t think they meant the ability to uninstall the game. Pretty sure they meant ghost-making the launchers available with no announcement towards the real purpose and everyone think it corresponded with the activation of AV weekend for beta testing.

ya BUT they just could’t do that on ANY OTHER DAY and only on the day day of AV testing

Just got an update I am downloading the beta Stress test again…
I’m not one that cares anything about beta at all, frankly don’t have time for it right now. However, the way this was done was pretty crappy. A simple, " hey you will be seeing this sometime today " doesn’t take one employee that long to do and would eliminate mess like we saw today.
It’s even more of a mess considering the AV test was starting at roughly the same time. I can understand how some people would get excited and then be upset when they saw the explanation. I know I was doing a when I saw it.

That makes sense. Shutting down beta servers so they are forced to test AV unlike AB weekend which was terrible (nobody joined and queues were 1 hour long). I can see the beta testing ending in a few weeks from now. It’s already boring to watch aswell.

Have to say that trying to watch someone else play AV is much less interesting than actually playing in AV. Even gasp boring. About as fun as watching some random guild doing some random raid instance.
You can’t get a feel of what’s happening on the AV map. It’s like watching a movie through a scope. No 100k viewers in the cards for streamers running AV this weekend I’m guessing.
Why would any sane person update the launcher to show the Beta/Stress right before the AV testing was going to go live. Makes you question a lot about stuff behind the scenes.

Wanna see something real evil and funny?
Roll over the PLAY button after selecting “Beta & Stress Test: WoW Classic”…
“You can’t play WoW Classic yet.”
I’ve been trolled to the max.

Am I understanding this correctly, not every one who did the prior stress tests can participate in the AV stress test? I have the play button for beta/stress test but it is greyed out to me. I am presuming this is working as intended and not all were invited for AV?
Heh. I’m glad I caught this thread before I noticed my launcher doing anything. Given the way things have rolled out over the past month, I was spared “omgdidigetintobetaafterallboingboing.” I think a certain amount of “c’mon, don’t tease me like that” is natural and appropriate, even though they apparently were doing a good thing.
Since it also appears topical here, I have no objection to requiring one have an active subscription to get into the beta. I reserve the deserving of free stuff for things like poor people needing food while they look for their next job. I would like to see beta access go to people on average most likely to know what they’re looking at and how it might differ from Vanilla, of course.
Finally, regarding the server crashes and whether or not that was stress testing (mentioned about forty comments back, I think), I think it absolutely was. Developers had to dust off an old game copy, tease out 1.12 from stored files, then mesh that with current architecture. The evidence of the last stress test indicates the gears did not mesh well at all, so it absolutely was a test of the login servers also, or at least they way they interacted with the old game.
The next stress test, one hopes, will let us know how well they’ve learned from the gears locking up. I find myself wishing there were a stress test planned for a Saturday, however, so they really could beat on that thing.

The people who posted asking for the ability to do exactly that?
Such posts do exist over on the Beta forums.
Why not just give the people who were in the stress test beta access? Especially since some of us are actually trying to report bugs that have slipped through the cracks somehow and your current testing group hasn’t even taken notice of them because they’re too busy trying to early-access the game.

I thought they gave it back for the stress test on the 19th this coming Wednesday.

Stop screwing with us Blizzard. We know you dont really care about your players, only the money they provide you… but come on, you could at least not purposefully get our hopes up.
Announcing the AV tests, then making the Beta-Stress Test option pop up for all of us in the same time period would obviously make us believe that we would be allowed to participate, but then to deny us this after we got all hyped and excited is like offering a blind child the gift of sight, then yanking it away once the hope had filled the poor little thing.
There is no harm in keeping the stress test up, there is no harm in adding more invites, or making a second beta test server for the lot of us to explore and test the environment. More testers = more bugs found, as well as a much happier community.
Please, on behalf of all of us who would give anything to be included in this test… stop screwing with our hopes and emotions.
Reading is hard?
When all stress testing has been completed. The beta will no longer be able to be played. Sooooooo the launcher has been installed to be able to uninstall the beta. Before or after that time you will be able to manualy uninstall the beta.
Rember as always if you dont meet the requirments for the testing you will not be able to test.
We can hope and pray. If they do follow the Blizzard modus operandi, they will increase that beta pool so let’s keep our fingers crossed!
