Beta and PTR

Okay so lots of people been talkin bout beta, and I’m sold on it, it would be excellent to be a part of.

Question: if they do a beta, you think it will be open to all of us on PTR? I read a post the other day in regards to release date, saying that in 2004 there was no announced release date and the poster was about to buy a beta key for a hundred dollars on ebaywhen the game dropped. So you think they’ll do that and male it all exclusive? Or will we be able to just log into the PTR and play?

I’d rather they skip all the formality and just release the damn game already.

Who needs a beta, from Blizzard’s track record they don’t do anything in BETA any way other then ignore all the bug reports…

So why BETA or PTR again?

Why not just cut the BS and go straight to LIVE?

I mean… That’s just stupid. I’m assuming this guy also purchased a ticket to the Fyre Festival.

People paid for the demo. Not much difference.

I’m cool with them releasing it so people know what’s coming and what’s in there. I’d never play it though because I want that nostalgia kick to be intense and real when I play it live.

You know how I know you have no idea what you’re talking about?

They also don’t spend 2 months making pretty much weekly blue posts either.

[citation needed]

The release date was known a month in advance, and there was an open beta where the only access required was putting your email address on a form. Anyone so stupid that they were going to pay for a beta key when they didn’t know about the upcoming release… deserves to be bilked.

I am actually shocked that they took that advice.

It’s so unlike Blizzard to actually take reasonable advice that I am still kinda left speechless. I guess they’re really reading this forum, but I still hold my cards close because it’s not like me to turn my hand so easily.

Thing is, I am not going to get my hopes up here… They have indeed shown improvement, but so far I am not going to count on any sort of miraculous repentant behavior until I see visible tangible proof that they would indeed take ONLY feedback regarding bugs.

Some things we should really consider is…

BETA phases, the kind that would be present for Modern WoW would have already began by now and the Alpha would be done by now.

The feeling I get is that they MIGHT have a BETA but I doubt it will be the kinda BETA that players want. Instead it will be likely a BETA for testing the internal functions, features and systems in game.

Other little bugs and tinkering nasties are likely to go live unfortunately and we will have to report those and Blizzard will need to review on a case by case basis and squash them… (Talking actual retail Classic Live)

That’s kinda how I see this going down.

As for an official BETA?? It might happen, but I would not count on it… If they do it, it’s not going to be what some people are looking for or expect. I doubt it will be in a format that will mirror Modern WoW BETA with forums and all that stuff.

Who knows man, maybe they do go with a BETA but what does it really solve outside of providing Private servers with crucial data that they need to compete with.

Call me a little protective but I really don’t care to hand them that kind of data.

As always, thank you for clarifying; the terms of the original beta are all I was wondering about. I’m not going to dig up a thread for citation. Bilked? Oh a bill that is milked? Like getting ripped off?

bilk verb
obtain or withhold money from (someone) by deceit or without justification; cheat or defraud.
“government waste has bilked the taxpayer of billions of dollars”
