So, for beta access you have to have a subscription and click that nifty check mark in the beta opt-in page.
But what else are they taking into consideration?
Are they taking into consideration accounts that have been active since Nov of 2004?
Are they taking into consideration the folks who have been active 90% of the time of their account ownership?
I assume they are taking into consideration if the account has been banned, or has been in other beta tests.
I ask this because there are those of us that have been dedicated to the game since 2004 (if not since prior to that) and yet, still will not have the opportunity to partake in the beta. There are those of us who have continuously come back to the game even when blizzard insisted on driving the game into the ground with their āill thought ofā additions. Yet they cherry pick streamers who have been playing since Wrath to play the beta for āinputā when in reality, those individuals have no idea about vanilla WoW.
So I suppose after going off on a rant, what do you suspect is the criteria for an account to be flagged for the beta access?

Beta Accessā¦
Step 1: Become a streamer

Donāt assume anything. Assuming is bad and only leads to lofty expectations that in turn lead to scalding disappointment. Entirely avoidable if you just relax. Itās just a video game.

I suppose even if I were to get the beta access, I still wonder what the criteria is, you know?
Iām willing to bet they love your hat. Instant access.
Unless you broke the rules for years playing on private servers you most likely dont have a chance as I do. Blizzard makes me regret never logging on a private server. Why the hell did I even bother paying into this game for years when all I wanted to play was classic. Private servers will be around even after release. My āhair that broke the camels backā was the collectors edition that is already sold out. What a joke.

Be a top streamer
Have a vanilla account
Maybe if you were one of the first to opt in
Those would be the main criteria i would imagine
oh and dont forget to send blizzard sub money
The biggest thing they are looking for other than being a streamer is experience playing Vanillaā¦The original Vanilla NOT a private server.
And time played.
I imagine it will mostly be random among subscribers⦠Unlike patch testing there isnāt really a need to select players of certain groups for testing. I imagine the media will get their pass then it will be given out to subs.
End of the day they are testing fine details not balancing like most tests.
Account wide time played would be skewed.
I know of 4 people that play on the same account with different game licenses and would rack up significantly more than any single person could potentially do.

From what we can tell, this is the only way to ensure beta access, so far.

In no way did I imply time played among several people.
To fill our pool of beta and stress test participants, weāll be choosing dedicated players who meet select criteria from both the WoW Classic beta opt-in and the standard Warcraft beta opt-in. Participants will also need to have an active subscription or active game time on their battlenet account. While opting-in to the beta is the primary way to make sure youāre in the running to join the test it doesnāt guarantee an invitation to the closed beta test. We may also consider additional factors such as how long a player has been subscribed to the game so that we have the right mix of players to ensure great feedback toward making WoW Classic the very best experience for the community.
Taken straight from the announcement page.

beta invites are tied to account and not game license.
So im unsure what other implication you could be making
Maybe you just mean age of account?
He/she is saying that multiple people could have played on an account in vanilla. My neighbors who actually introduced me to the game used to share the same account between 3 people. All of them would play at some point in the day / night. They all had different characters.
" how long a player has been subscribed to the game"
So is this actively paying them or is this how long the account has been actively used?
Iām kind of wondering the same thing. I played in Classic, but of course havenāt had a perpetually active sub since then. It isnāt very clear, but I would think they mean how long the account has existed. It would seem silly to omit people based on their potential inability to sustain an subscription due to financial reasons.
I find it absolutely fascinating and uplifting that there are people who played vanilla and still are not cynical enough or beaten down enough by life that a beta still excites them.
Good for you. I really hope you get in. I am very excited to play the game when it goes live, but betas to me are a waste of time where my progress isnāt saved and they expect free work from me in return for literally no tangible benefit. I remember how excited I used to get when I got into betas, Anarchy Online being the first big mmorpg beta I got into. I had a ton of fun. I just couldnāt enjoy a beta now to save my life.
I really wish I could go back to then. But life has since beaten me down and kicked me int he face enough times that there is no coming back. It truly makes me happy that there are people out there that have avoided my fate. If you start a petition to get into beta I will gladly sign it because people like you deserve good things to happen to them.

So as it currently stands, none of the popular streamers have āaccessā though I did hear something from sodapoppin that they āhave to keep quietā about the beta access. Which pushes me to believe that these individuals have insider information, which makes no sense. Itās as if Blizzard is intentionally attempting to make the game less interesting by having the so called āspergsā get involved first.
