In my opinion Blizzard has all but destroyed the economy via deflation so people will have to buy tokens for any real gold.

I mean gathering and selling is still a very solid method of making a decent amount of gold like the OP is asking. It is by no means the best method, but it is a fine method.
Get a group of good people and sell M+ carries.

Run Siege of Orgrimmar mythic difficulty, several thousand gold will be yours each run.
Roll Blood Elf (Void Elf or Space Goat), remove armor, dance on mailbox.
If you’re looking for time efficiency, go mow somebody’s lawn and buy a WoW token. You’re better off doing that than spending hours in game trying to get 10k gold.
