Best way to learn to PVP?

Hi all,

I have never really been a PVP player, but i want to get into it. I have literally never entered an arena match and never done more than casual random BGs way back in the day. I have never been very good at PVP but want to start to learn and get into it.

What is the best way for a total scrublord like myself to get into PVP? Should i just run a bunch of random BGs until i start getting good there then move up to duels or arenas? Just jump right in and get stomped for a bit? I don’t have much experience with the PVP community and i would rather avoid people being immensely toxic since i will just be learning the ropes.

Also probably important to mention that i’ve been out of the game for a while so there are certain classes and abilities that i am very unfamiliar with.

Any advice on how to get into it is appreciated!

Watch streamers and Youtube videos over classes, lvl some classes and learn their tool kit, and spam q. Try not to get discouraged after losing or if a teammate leaves after a L because that’ll happen a lot.

just play. do random BGs. if you find a class keeps rekting you, roll an alt and try that class to learn its weaknesses.

You can learn a thing or 2 from watching streamers play your class.

Just do it. I know it sounds counter intuitive to just throw yourself to the wolves… but it’s truly the best way.

I think a great strategy for a new DPS player is to find a healer and stay near them. Set them as your focus target, keep an eye on them. Attack anyone who attacks them, peel for them as much as you can, CC any melee trying to sit on them. Make it your mission to kill anyone before they die.

You’ll find you’re making players 2x as good as you have a much harder BG… and it basically reduces the need for a tactical understanding of the BG you’re in. You don’t worry about the objectives. You keep one of your 1-3 healers alive. You keep him alive, he keeps you and those around you alive… your goals sorta get accomplished organically.

Watch streams who play your class, preferably high rated ones
Learn how to rotate defensive cds
Learn the other classes inside and out
Learn the various team compositions and what the win conditions are
Lastly, just have fun trying to improve and the rating will come naturally

Play as many arenas as you can. Youll get some cr.

Just play the game. Be honest in lfg and with yourself. Ignore the ragers and move on.

Look up ladder anxiety and be ready to address it. I think tempo storm has a good article on it.

After that, practice.

Start with random battlegrounds to get your gear and upgrade it. Epic battlegrounds are a good place to start as your mistakes will likely go unnoticed.
