Best way to jump into Dungeons for a noob

Sorry in advance if this type of thing comes up all the time and is a tired conversation.

I quit back in Wrath and played some during Legion and BFA, but due to the horror stories of toxic attitudes have avoided dungeons altogether (I did them in Wrath though). However, this expansion I’m looking to join again, but not sure how is the best method. I know I’ll be at a disadvantage, not having the experience between WotLK and now. I just don’t want to get flamed constantly or vote kicked regularly.

What’s the best method of me getting back into dungeons without getting too much toxicity or getting kicked because I’m learning. Stick to only guild runs? Start with specific normal dungeons after reading/watching guides then move on to heroic? Jump right in on LFG and learn trial by fire method? Sticking to guildie only runs seems safest, but I don’t see a lot of conversation in my guild about doing runs, so guessing they have cliques where they whisper to each other or they all just LFG themselves - I suppose I could bring up the topic myself and create my own groups. Learning each dungeon through guides/tutorials seems like it could take awhile until I could use the random finder, but I’d get a better sense of what to expect/do - eventually. Jumping in seems like folly, and not fair to those that would have to carry me, or so my thinking goes. I’d rather not be responsible for wipes, etc.

My iLVL is 158 as I type this, so I could join heroics, but should I? Or should I hop into Normal and get my feet wet first? Or is the difference between heroic and normal that great? Will learning on Normal and then going into Heroic be the best course of action? Learning each dungeon seems like a monumental task at the moment, with having to memorize what trash packs do, what the bosses do and maintain my dps with all of that moving around, so the slow method of learning each dungeon through tutorials/guides could possibly take me weeks depending on how many runs it takes to get each dungeon “down.”

I’d love some good advice.

The in game adventure guide has a quick rundown of the boss fights that is pretty user friendly.

If you are nervous, start at normal so you have at least seen the fights and know the dungeon lay out before moving to heroic.

I have never seen DPS have any issues in normal/heroic as long as you know how to play your class and do the general mechanics. You dont even have to execute them perfectly, because dungeons are pretty forgiving at those levels.

But really if you don’t want issues, follow the tank and don’t pull extra mobs.

One final thought, everyone is learning dungeons right now so its the perfect time to jump back in.

Just read the dungeon Adventures guide and you’ll be fine

Follow everyone else, and do what they do, say what they say, and wear what they wear One day you’ll be just like them…

Heroic dungeons are very easy and are a good place to learn, especially if you’re DPS. Nothing you can queue for in this game is taken very seriously, don’t worry about it.

Just get in there and bash your head against a wall until the mechanics leave an imprint on your forehead like I do.

Just run normals and move up. Normal sets the bar so low that you’d have to be afk to fail them.

Normals are actually harder than heroics only because the people in them are more likely to be completely clueless. With heroics you generally have people who are gearing up an alt, have already done the dungeon on normal a few times, or aren’t still leveling their first character.

Probably though the entrance portal.

Bravo good sir!

U can ignore every mechanic and be fine in normals. They deal no dmg at all.

Just read up on the mechanics or even watch a youtube video. As long as you are not pulling extra packs continuously and trying to learn the mechanics you will be fine. The first few weeks groups should be more understanding generally.

I would suggest to start with normal dungeons, on a dps, after reading the dungeon journal just to get some general idea of what’s coming up. Pick one dungeon, read the journal, then queue for LFD. Afterwards, if you are still confused, then watch a video guide.

After you are more familiar with these dungeons, you can start on heroics and try healing and tanking.

OP, don’t listen to people who say things like this please. :grimacing:

But you’ll still be fine learning in normals. Don’t stand in bad stuff, interrupt enemy casts, give the adventure guide a quick glance before queueing up and follow close behind the tank. That’s really all there is to most things.

I’d also say, just drop a quick, “Never done this one before,” each time you enter a new dungeon. People are still happy to drop a quick one-line explanation of every boss in the early days of an expac.

I am in the same boat sorta… I built up the nerve to run some normals over the weekend to finally get some of my dungeon quests done, and it went ok… but I’d really like to get into healing… (drood) but that is something i can’t practice/learn outside of a dungeon or group play… Its been likely 7-8 years since I ran resto and even then not a whole lot.

Don’t take it too personally if you get kicked. Keep trying.
