Best way to handle ranged weapon mobs as a mage

I am beginning to hate kill quests where the mobs have a ranged weapon, casters are fine.

If I use mana shield, I have to drink much more often between fights. I can only stay in the dead zone for how ever long my frost nova holds up.

There not much of a difference whether I fight them at ranged or melee distance. What strategies do you use.

(I mained as a druid in vanilla and didn’t have this problem ;))

Frost nova and kite.

LOS if you have the option. Otherwise you either have to be in the dead zone or choose between being meleed or ranged.

I guess I’d have to use frost armor for that and lose my spell regen from mage armor…

I just nuke them down super fast. Queue up Pyroblast from max range and immediately follow up with a fireball. Usually, I am about halfway through casting fireball by the time the Pyro connects. Then follow up with a 2nd fireball, fire blast, then wand if they manage to still be alive.
Pyroblast->Fireball->Fireball->Fire Blast->Wand

And if I’m frost spec? I like you’re thinking, but I find myself using scorch to avoid interruption while burning them down.

Not sure. Maybe open up with fireball instead of frostbolt for a tiny boost in damage. That’s kind of the issue with frost. Sure it has superior survivability, but the damage output is lack luster. Killing enemies faster is still pretty good for survivability.

Clothey npc types are easy for melee usually,

melee npc types are easier for casters usually.

I prefer ranged mobs to be honest, sure I’ll be having to drink more often, but I don’t have to kite around much. Have your mana shield and mage armor up and spam some frostbolt baby. Maybe a fire blast here and there. That’s how I do it anyway. But I’m lazy.

And I made a mage because I’m lazy. Lol.

Fun fact. In the very beginning , you used to be able to counter spell them.
