My acquisition of knowledge items seems to have dried up lately (bug?) although I am diligently harvesting every herb I see. What is the best way to get these?
Knowledge is time gated.
For herbalism, each week you have access to the following:
5 blue items randomly found while gathering that each give 1 knowledge.
1 purple item randomly found while gathering that gives 2? Might be 3 Knowledge.
A quest at the trainer in dornogal that wants you to give him some herbs to get 2 or 3 knowledge points.
For alchemy:
Patron orders that give knowledge point items, it’s kind of RNG, but about 6 per week from that afaik.
You can pickup 2 items each week from dirt piles and treasures, each giving 2 knowledge for a total of 4 from these items.
For both:
Inscriptionists can make you a knowledge book that you can consume for 1 point. You can consume one book per week. You obtain these by posting word orders for the relevant book.

It’s basically the same system as dragonflight. Minus infinitely grindable dragon knowledge stones
Afaik. There’s supposed to be a soft catch-up mechanic for gathering/professions. Probably in the form of being able to sometimes gather an extra knowledge item. But if you’re “caught up”, you probably don’t get them.

I think currently for gathering. Your max points currently would be something like the following
30 from artisans acuity books
10 from the rep book
10 from the kej book.
24 from treasures.
30 from weekly chores
30? From unique herb types.
So 134 give or take a bit.
