I am missing a lot from LFR and Normal and a few from Heroic/Mythic. The rate we are getting charges means I can’t really get many pieces from that unless I am missing something.
I’ve been saving vet and champ pieces in my bank to convert after the season when the charges are dropped for season 1 conversion.
Vet 1-4 gives LFR, Vet 5-8 gives Normal
Champ 1-4 gives normal, Champ 5-8 gives heroic.
Hero 1-4 gives heroic, 5-6 gives mythic
Myth always gives mythic appearance.
Valorstones are kind of abundant or scarce at times but for me now they are abundant so I just make sure I have a piece saved that meets the above conversion and will save til after the season.
Veteran comes from weeklies and the m+ valorstone chest while champ gear is abundant in delves at mid level.

For LFR and normal, if you want an easy way to get specific armor slots, you can use war mode gear. Turn on war mode in Dornogal at the bottom right of your talent pane, pick up the sparks of war quest in the PVP area from Ruffious, and complete that via world quests in the specified zone and farming dirt/rares. Do world quests in other zones in war mode to get more bloody tokens.
You can put the token vet gear into the catalyst and then upgrade to tier 5 for the normal appearance. As mentioned above, you can hoard pieces for when the charges are free after this season. You could possibly even buy two items for each slot and upgrade one and leave one baseline. You’ll also collect the war mode gear appearances as a bonus.
