Best VPN protocol for SEA player (US + OCE)

Hi there,

looking for some advice regarding rerouting my connection to get better connection on oceanic realms. I’m currently located in South East Asia (hong kong) and saw online that NordVPN which I already own is a good way to reduce ping in game.

I have been using it on the Sydney servers and it seems to reduce my ms by 30 /50 (from 180 to 120) however this does not seem to last. I get random spikes of up to 2000 ms sometimes, and more often than not my world ms goes up to 300 while my home ms remains unchanged.

I was testing out some other realms (tichondrius) and it seems to have a baseline lower ms than some oceanic realms, but it is still kind of high.

I was wandering if anyone out there playing in SEA had a combination to optimize their gameplay on either US or Oceanic realms

I play from China. There is no solution. You just have to gauge the best times of the day to play.

For us, morning is usually best.

I’m in the GamingVPN.com beta and its working really good when I travel, including from China.

How good is really good? Sub 100?

Best I’ve ever had here was 166

Just tested now, I am getting 83ms to 91ms on one server, and then 65ms to 80ms on another. Though the average is really 85ms and 68ms or so. Just used normal ping or w/e so not scientific.

That’s fantastic!

which region do you play on? Oceanic realms or Tich server like koreans ?

I’ve played on both American servers and EU.

If you have the option, use one that utilizes the UDP protocol. As long as you have a good connection it will be faster since UDP has less overhead and more specifically does not do error checking vs TCP. It allows VPN connections to be more responsive which is what you want for gaming.

I just checked and that one DOES use UDP, maybe that is why it works so well?
