I started playing wow back in WoTLK, back then people were so critical with the gear we have and what stats we focus on.
a standard raiding guild would never let me do ICC25 as a resto shaman without a full haste gear with haste gem/enchants. (7k HPS wtf)
I stopped playing wow after wotlk and just recently played wow again.
I seem to carry the mentality of “Stat priority over gearscore”
My brewmaster monk is now at 410 ilvl with mastery priority + balanced versatility/crit while avoiding haste (I scrap all the gears with haste stats even if they have high ilvl) , using the optimal azerite traits for mythic+
but despite all that, I’m struggling to tank in terms of damage mitigation even in mythic +6
while I see tanks with high ilvl but terrible stats and traits yet still able to reach mythic +10
Should I take the same route and just let it go and just try to get the highest ilvl as possible regardless if the stats are not recommended?
When is the best time I should worry about stats?
Stats certainly matter if you’re a raider. Take the advice of the people around you. They’ll show you how to make those decisions.
But never, NEVER, use the word “gearscore”. It’s “ilvl” now. “Gearscore” brands you as a player who hasn’t played since wrath and is way behind.

Its because your ilvl is garbage for what it needs to be.
You’re lacking the basic stats of armor, stamina, and agility which contribute directly to your tankiness.
Secondary stats are nice, but you need the increase in your primary stats to be effective.

If you’re barely at 410, you should be worrying about higher ilvl gear than secondary stats… Maybe it’s time to go onto item restoration and get back all the items you destroyed.

If you’re ignoring higher ilvl gear in favor of getting the right secondary stats or azerite traits, you’re losing out on a ton of stamina and agility. Both are things that will help you survive and/or provide the increased dps to kill things before they kill you.

While you are correct that haste is pretty bad for Brewmaster, you also have to take into consideration that agility, armor, and stamina are very good for Brewmaster. Basically any item that is 10-15 item levels higher that what you currently have on will be an upgrade regardless of secondary stats (excluding rings and trinkets).
It’s also worth keeping higher ilvl stuff in your bag or bank even if you don’t use it, because when you sign up for groups it’s your max ilvl equippable that shows up, not your equipped ilvl
Further, if your ilvl is below max world quests the item rewards for completing those quests will be scaled lower.
Always keep highest ilvl, even if you dont plan to use it. It also allows you to trade higher item level stuff away to players who will actually be able to make use of it.

Were we playing the same wotlk? Wrath was the epitome of gearscore > everything else
