My main goal is to run middle keys around the 15 level and to be able to carry a group and overcome common PUG mistakes. My guess is prot paladin is the best for this with its insane utility and massive interrupts.
However, I’m not the most informed and I enjoy all tanks except maybe warrior which I haven’t played. I loved getting KSM with my guardian because I basically didn’t need a healer and could help with CC and off healing. Would another tank be better at that? I also like being completely self-sufficient as blood but I miss being able to off-heal.
You can do Protection Paladin or Vengeance Demon Hunter…. But for mid keys:
Blood DK is my favourite. Fat pulls, self reliance. Plus while the Legendary needs help, that fat ilvl if it does drop!
Just imagine: AMS, AMZ, Sleet CC, grips, control undead for incorp, death coil for afflicted, out healing the healer, fat rezan trinket which loves your phys bonus damage, dmg with legendary - that could be you!
Probably prot pally because you can also carry the healer with really good play. BDK and VDH might be able to help the healer by not needing heals at all but Prot paladin can also offheal teammates.
Possibly interesting: 5xPaladins time 26 AD with no healer because the tank is also healing and the dps are offhealing and using defensives well. If that can happen in a 26, the healing you can do is extremely powerful in a 15.
I want to add that in the 15 range, most dps cc randomly, if at all, so having a tank that can do most of the interrupts and cc is ideal.
Thank you all. I’ll dabble with prot pally, brewmaster, and blood. But I’ll likely focus on the pally next. Being able to tank AND help the healer just feels so good.
honestly all tanks can do 15’s very solidly… it jsut depends on your level of skill on which one will work better for you and your understanding of the class…
I recommend prot paladin as its the easiest spec/class to play. everything is very straight forward about abilities and cooldowns
I dunno about other tanks but Prot Paladin is great. I really struggled to fully heal a 15 dungeon before with a healer that didn’t really heal much. But if they do a little, it’s possible.
You have to play warrior. It is the primal og tank. Its not for me, I prefer blood dks, but once upon a time, warriors were the best tanks, and I believe if you get someone who has only played warrior and loves to tank, they should easily understand the needs for the group, and keep it cool for the healers, and safe for the damage dealers, except for stupid melee. (just kidding)
Pally if you want to fix the groups mistakes, blood if you want to not care the group made them to begin with.
A pally might eventually fall down if the group wipes because they do need outside aid at some point but have a lot of tools to prevent the wipe from happening, a well played dk can stall for pretty much eternity while everyone runs back.
Legendary isn’t even that good for blood because it is a casted effect.
In 15s its fine but once you get high enough key wise you literally would risk falling over if you casted the effect.
Druids have lots of heals, but you can’t use them to heal other players while you are tanking, because they will knock you out of shapeshift form. I tanked a normal leveling Plaguefall yesterday where I did 3x the healing that the healer did, stopping between fights to heal the other players or rez the healer, who died 3 times.
Because at some point I find the level of optimization unfun. I don’t really do homework for the dungeon and I have no interest beyond being casual. But I love helping other casual players out and I get a kick bringing more casual players up to something like the 15 level.
My job is quite stressful and I honestly don’t want a “challenge” in a video game. Lastly, I’m just okay at this game and have no desire to get better.
