Best tank class for delves

I have been reading all of the posts on delves. I have done level 8 once with my BM hunter, before the first “tuning.” She is ilvl 579. Now I can barely do t6. I know she needs better gear. I also have a Demo Warlock ilevel 518 that was going through t3 without much trouble. Now, she’s having trouble.

I’ve read a number of players saying their tank classes are doing well. I have a level 70 Blood DK and am wondering if she would be good for delves, or some other tank. I really enjoy doing the delves. Thank you for any suggestions.

I run with friends who flex-role for all three roles.

Myself personally can speak for Guardian Druid and Brewmaster Monk (with even having it done on WW too). It is relatively easy IMO both before and after nerf on T8.

I’ve seen it done in front of me fairly easily on a Protection Paladin and Vengeance DH. The prot pal guy especially has an easy time using his divine toll and seems to melt most delves.

Only ones I can’t confirm are Protection War/Blood DK but I’m sure others here who have tried can talk for them.

TL;DR honestly take your flavour of tank you can’t go wrong.

I do have a ret pally I didn’t think of, that I could spec to protect. I figured I needed a hardcore tank, to enjoy leveling in delves.

The tuning is weird. Mobs now kill my Primal Earth elemental super quick. My prot warrior can handles hit with a healer thats not a problem. Been running with my Vengeance DH friend now cause Shaman struggle a bit with surival. Doable but just saves from the tendum.

Meanwhile Demo lock Felguard just boss tank faceroll whatever it faces. /shrug

Blizz can’t fix how thing are scaled I guess.

No tanks should have issues with it, play the one you enjoy. Speaking for myself 8s have been very easy on monk and war tanks.

You might be coming into something good. If you’re patient enough to power through till the 11.0.5 it’s getting a pretty sweet rework which turns avenger shield into a burn and brings the power back to Avenging Wrath. Great times ahead

Yeah you can just ring peace, paralysis and pull one at the time lol. Did 11 with my monk. Took too long tho, don’t recommend doing.

Try it. I don’t like tanking dungeons but I enjoy tanking delves. I just set my loot spec to ret and get 1-2 dps and maybe a healer and do 8s relatively smoothly.

I tried a 9 and 10 earlier today for the first time and did both normally like I’d do an 8 first try for each with no deaths… I’ll try an 11 later but I wouldn’t be too worried about pulling one at a time.

i beat T8 on my guardian arcane druid at ilvl 572 yesterday using the arcane thrash and arcane self healing talents, the 10% damage reduction on moonfire and 6% damage reduction on thrash stacks (those two really took the edge off of the incoming spell damage), and i’ve got barkskin talented for maximum 40% damage reduction, alternating barkskin and lunar beam, and i also took the 2nd charge of survival instincts talent along with rage of the sleeper. having enough defensive cooldowns to rotate through and enough passive damage mitigation was a lot more important than damage throughput talents, i dont need to hold threat, and as long as im surviving i can take an extra few minutes to clear with lower dps as long as things arent flattening me in 1 hit, so i found defensive builds to be a lot more successful even if they are a bit slower

Depends on the mob in question. If you do the candle one, those big kobol elite are quite nasty, you don’t want more than one imo.

I am going to give it a try for sure. I was also hoping to hear more on Blood DKs in delves. She is only 70 right now, but I would like to try leveling her in delves, too.

I can do one at a time with my 579 BM hunter. Waxface kicked my butt a bunch of times until I finally got the upper hand. But since then changes have been made where I struggle on t7. I don’t expect to roll through t8 with no challenge, but it is quite a bit harder now, which is why I am thinking of leveling up a tank.

Yeah, im 604 so it might why I find kind of easier x3 You’ll get there!

I think it’s best to wait for Blizzard devs to make up their minds on how they want Delves to be, and for the dust to settle.

I brought my 484 ret pally over and I was planning to try a t1 to see how I’d do. Well it was set to t3, so I just went with it. I crushed it. Zero deaths and a good difficulty level. I still had to work. Such a totally different experience than my 518 demo warlock. She can do t3 but they are harder for her. It would be nice if all the classes experienced close to the same difficulty.

I also got almost a full level of xp and a piece of 508 gear.

Ret pally is fine on it’s own.

You are so right about Prot. I switched before I even got the gear I needed and still t3 was a cakewalk at ilvl 484. But the gear is garbage! I am getting decent XP but no gear I can use. I think they should lower the level req on t4.

I am loving my prot pally. So much I am going to make her my main. Today doing t3s I did receive a few pieces better than my DF stuff. I am 78 and 525. I did some tanking with my guild on random normal dungeons. I LOVED it! I can’t wait to try t4s.
