Hi there!
I’m new to rogue, as well as PvP in general. Been toying around with the idea of PvPing since I began the game in '06 but I never got around to it due to raiding, and when M+ was introduced, that as well.
I mained a warlock since Vanilla and have finally decided to try a new class in DF and alongside it try PVP. I heard subtlety is the best for PVE environments, but which is better for PvP?
Best is subjective and falls to tuning always. All 3 are close in damage when going side by side and you remove silly trinkets and externals etc.
Before you listen to any propaganda, find what stands out to you and express yourself through that. If you like a certain style roll with that, you don’t need any other reason.
All 3 hit hard in different ways / compiling effects. All 3 have different styles and different things to keep on mind with different favorable conditions to an extent.
The only question to be asked is:
What do you like doing and how do you want to do it? That’s it, that is all that matters.
Welcome to rogue kind, have a great time and keep your head on a swivel friend.

Thank you for the kind words!
I’ll take that into consideration, I’ve been having a lot of fun doing PvP as Assassination, so I’ll probably stick to that.

Of course dude. Once those toxins settle in and they don’t have a way out, it’s a rough time for them.
Be patient, have fun, and be quick!

The math will say that Sub is superior, albeit by a not outsized margin. That said, the math means little if you can’t play the spec.
Assassination: good for the fledgling rogue who is still learning what it means to be one. It can generate a lot of pressure through poison stacking and numerous burst windows (though those burst windows will be less powerful than subs, they will tend to be more frequent). Solid level of CC, in line with the other specs falling short of Outlaw though.
Outlaw: For the more experienced rogue who understands how to combine CC with team pressure. They have good CC setup abilities, good burst, and survivability. They have less rot than assassination though, so being on top of your CC chains is a must.
Sub: Realistically, this is the expert rogue spec. Not for the beginner or slow learner. This spec has incredible burst windows but requires a decent amount of setup. Has a lot of escapes and reset ability but is also very CD dependent… if you get your setup wrong or miss a strong CD window, your damage will tank HARD and it will be difficult to recover from it.
I am sure there are some rogues who will disagree with this, but this has been the general consensus across the rogue community at large.
