Best pvp classes in Classic

Been playing a lot of pvp over last 2 years (pserver pay to win place). So far it’s interesting, but things really changed over the years.

Back in classic, people didn’t know all the strategies and ways to play. Now players are much more sophisticated.

Seems like everyone is on par in blue gear. But once gear gets into T2, damage outpaces health so much that anyone who can control any burst turns into a crazy murdering machine.

Strongest geared w/ T2 classes in battlegrounds based on what I see:

  • mages
  • shamans (elemental and enhancement)
  • warriors
  • hunters

Almost impossible to kill are druids and paladins.

Not saying all others can’t do well, all classes do well when geared a lot. But these seem to be the classes with most HK’s per fight since they can control opponent and then time burst well enough to blow opponents up in a few seconds when opportunity is there. Almost no one can survive 6k+ burst. And all these classes do that and more.

All top pvpers use engineering exclusively (not grenades, just trinkets and such). Almost unfair.

Just my observation. Hope it helps anyone who is interested in battlegrounds.

How are mages OP? How do they burst 6k?

Mages are really good, but not many good mages will be playing pom pyro. Frost is just better outside of one global every 3 min. Honestly every class has atleast one spec that is viable in pvp

Edit: on how they burst 6k they basically just use PoM+Pyroblast and with combustion you can make it like a 60%+ crit chance (you prob shouldn’t be going fire until you have 30%+ crit). Pyro hit insanely hard in vanilla, but had a 6 or 7s cast time and fire mages were so squishy and didn’t have block, so most didn’t really use it that much outside of duels/1v1 situations where you can poly+cast a pyro (assuming you’re pve fire spec for raiding and not the gimmicky pom+pyro spec that makes you basically useless except once every 3 min). Raiding as fire is way more fun than frost, but I’d want to be frost in almost every pvp situation

you forgot rogues

Rogues in world pvp are powerful because of the utility they have of stuns and big damage, along with being able to choose their battles. In BGs, they are very effective when coordinated and organized.

Enh is very RNG. T3 Ele is the most annoying thing you’ll ever go up against.

Warlocks in 1.12.1 are the strongest class at literally every tier.

I did remarkably well with a shadow priest back in the day; no ludicrous alpha damage, but tons of control and sustained DPS made for a really bad time for a lot of Alliance…

As we have seen the last few days of beta, pirate servers never had it right so they are not indicative of vanilla gameplay.

I believe fear didn’t have DR in 1.12.1, this is OP.

A lot of this “burst” is a gimmick at best and it isn’t like this is happening over and over again frequently. More like one time in 10 minutes then they are a free kill.

With that said being over powered and destroying people is what made the game great! Having a clear difference in power from gear is motivating. You need to level professions, you need to have engineering, you need to have first aid. You need to have pots. You are twinking and destroying and “IF” you get one shot then you just have to get better.

Things like templates and scaling ruined PvP. There is no point. This is an RPG so get the best gear then Duel countless hours a day to work on your skill and countering.

If getting the best gear to PvP isn’t motivating for you then I am not sure why you play an MMORPG to begin with? Being a great PvP player involves a massive time sink and infinite skill cap.

It’s not even just about fear. Their entire toolkit is insane. Healthstones, spellstones, deathcoil > shadow bolt > shadowburn nukes that global people with no counter save reflector and ice block, chance to proc instant cast nuke that can crit for 40-50% of somebody’s hp, offensive/defensive dispel, counterspell and blanket silence not on the GCD that they can use if they’re locked out because it’s tied to pet, etc.

Orc Warlocks are literally being banned from the next pserver dueling tournament because that class/race combo is impossible to take a series from if they have a brain.

There was a reason it was known as world of roguecraft back in the day I’m thinking:

Hi Steph, I didn’t forget rogues. They are strong in 1v1 and can stunlock players to death. However in bgs where players move in groups, rogues don’t get time to do their thing.

Enhancement shamans are a non viable pvp spec. It is non competitive

Warrior is fun but you need good gear and to be a good group player.

Yep. Ultimate with healer backup once T2 level.

You cant have combustion and PoM at the same time.

It was actually arcane power + double on use trinkets + Pom pyro.

Rogue, and someone already linked the vid.

Bingo not to mention a Rogue can be shut down by a good Prot Warrior. Since Prot has Revenge stun on no Dr coupled with 5 sec stun from Concussion blow and can just avoid the Rogue not to mention just resist its stuns especially if Orc. Then just Overpower, Overpower, get up bleeds dead.

When Naxx comes out Prot is also pretty deadly in the damage department with shield block value gear for Shield Slam. Getting in a CC chain from a Prot warrior then just dead while in it.

Edit- I would like to add most Rogues aren’t good. Most people playing Classic won’t know there class and breakpoints, talents or how to gear. They won’t know rotation. This goes for any class though. The skill cap is infinitely higher. So soon as a Rogue that isn’t good with rotation or handling being countered fights anyone with moderate skill that knows their class. They will be eliminated.

Classic in a nutshell, know everything there is about your class and gearing and you will do well in PvP. You will beat 99% of the players that rely on Templates and Retails lack of depth to carry them. Well unless you play something completely unviable…
