Hello all,
I haven’t played wow pvp in a long time and I want to come back to it. Can you guys help me choose a competitive pvp class? I want to know your opinion on what the best pvp class is, bonus points if you can provide patch notes / reasons why it’s the best.

For random bgs, just about anything. The skill floor has never been higher in wow as it is right now. Your gear procs will out damage your class abilities on most classes.
Instead of choosing what’s best, choose what’s fun. If you hate playing a caster but everyone tells you spamming gpie as a fire mage is broken then you’re still going to hate playing a caster.

Corruption is more important than class. Find a class that you enjoy then work on getting the right corruption.
Play what you enjoy and get good at it. Give maximum effort every time you enter a BG. You’ll have fun.

Prot Pally because you can counter the Meta and most played characters the best. You have a tool for every situation, you are a live lord and do great damage that is ranged. It’s holy dmg too.
Prot pally has unrivaled healing usually over 10 mil+ per BG which you achieve from instants, passives and absorbs.
Most popular classes are dumb Destro locks, Fire mages, Rogues but Prot Pal can block ALL spells meaning Bolt and Gpie can be reduced down to nothing. You hard counter rogues because Poisons are considered spells so you can block them and they do more damage to the rogue than you. I actually had a Rogue kill himself attacking me while I was looting a war crate.
All Blocked damage does holy damage to the attacker. I had a boomkin attack me and get dropped to 40% HP without me ever attacking him. It’s pretty hilarious. I can literally just ignore Dot classes and kill whatever is on me then finish them off.
Prot also has the best defensives, double immune bubble, lay on hands, bop as well as steed which grants you immunity to ALL cc and you can even charge through Monks ring and knock them out of it.
I just killed the assassin in WM and farmed the Horde I had bounty on me twice and eventually they formed a Raid group to keep killing me since they were bent from getting farmed by a Prot Pal. It’s the ULTIMATE solo fun.
sounds interesting, I don’t have a paladin but I’ll give it a try when I get one leveled. Do you think this could be viable in low level pvp bgs?
I would say probably not because in PvP Tanks take extra damage that is completely negated by Essences and Gear at max level. I would say Prot Pal is ALOT of fun if you want to main it get Heart level going Rank 3 Essences etc. Not as a casual Alt.
I usually main 1 character and love Solo BG, WPvP etc so that is why I use it. Can solo anything any elite groups etc.
Rextroy just SOLO a current Raid boss with Prot Pal. It’s just the Solo spec
PVP tanks take extra damage?
Yea the PvP balancing team got extra lazy so for a long time Tanks take extra damage in PvP it recently got up to 40% and now was just increased again to 50% because there are no Devs really balancing PvP to actually address the issue with Tanks being OP at max level or ANY class/spec that is OP for that matter.
Flat % nerfs is always a lazy fix that never fixes anything. At max level I can fully absorb a 200k Chaos bolt. It does zero damage but apparently they thought increase dmg would fix the problem. 
There’s a reason when you go into bgs that you don’t see many tanks. Think about why. The dude that’s telling you to play tank comes back every year or two and says the same thing before getting mad at blizzard because tanks aren’t that viable and quits again.
Because of the pve design of tanks, blizz can not balance them in pvp. So blizz keeps them in a slightly less viable state. Every now and then a tank spec will become strong and blizz will just nerf it in a couple weeks.
The majority hates playing against tanks so blizz makes sure to appeal to the masses. Blizz may be slow to tweak them at times but they always end up nerfing them.
Sorry I haven’t played this game a lot in recent expansions. Didn’t know I needed to stay for every bad expansion or patch? I came back because Prot is a lot of fun. I also have played Prot in PvP since TBC. If it stops being fun I will just play another game. That is what gamers do.
If SL is bad and personally don’t enjoy it, I won’t play it and wait for the next expansion. That is just common sense. There are other games out there.
Yet they can be played at the highest ratings in PvP.
Yet Tanks are a required role for PvP. That doesn’t make any sense. You NEED tanks in PvP especially BGs.
PS - So instead of making relevant points you just personally attack me which is shallow. This player asked for suggestions and I gave them to him. No need to follow me to every thread attacking what I do because you don’t like me or the fact I prefer to PvP as Prot. I am here to only offer advice, yet you post on a classic toon criticizing retail advice. You are just trolling, derailing threads and harassing people. Grow up

It’s a meme comp that takes games into late dampening with the only win condition being the mana war. No one likes playing against this as you’re not trying to kill… You’re trying to just live and burst with immunities when the enemy healer is oom.
In rated bgs, there are a few maps that have the tank swap back to dps spec to be more effective.
Yea the forum trolls has increased a significant amount in 8.3. Nothing you can do just smite them down when you see them and tell them how irrelevant everything they post is.
My advice stands true and if you need a great channel for watch for any Solo PvP or PvE content check out Rextroy

My information is information. You thinking it is bad is YOUR opinion. Instead why don’t you offer information about the topic instead of derailing the thread? That is what a troll is. What you are doing is the definition of trolling. Every thread I comment on you try to derail my advice and make a personal jab instead of responding to the OP.

Yea that isn’t advice. Instead here is a new video of 10 Tank RBGs abusing Essence mechanics to 1 shot everyone. Prot and Tanks are the Ultimate Luls at max level and that is why we see bitter post from players when I talk about how good Prot is. 
I gave real reasons why Prot is good and provided helpful info but bitter people will be bitter I guess. Good luck out there on whatever you choose.
