So currently leveling BM Hunter as main to 60 and curious what are best pve pets that will last me till end game ?
For me i like wolf pets due to the haste buff, leech and well they jusy look cool imo. Raptors are also gtg cause you get a slight speed boost and they have the mortal strike effect.
Also the cleft hoofs are great with their “shield” ability when they get low on health. Just remember to incorporate mend pet into your rotation and you should be good to go.
Go with a ferocity pet as they can self heal while you use med pet. Clefthoof are the best tanks you can get some rares rhinos in Wintergrasp. Second best are Scalehides that are tameable by any spec.
You can tame anything else you like, but keeping one of those two pet families as a back up is a good decision for when you need a pet for tougher times.
As BM, I tend to favor core hounds for solo play once I get Exotic Beasts ability.
Haste Buff, Leach, Molten Hide for extra damage, Obsidian skin on 1 minute cooldown for extra survivability.
While big, they don’t block your view as much as Clefthoof/rhino’s. Seem to be pretty decent tanks as they never die before I do.
Prior to gaining Exotic Beasts, I use Scale hides, cats, ravagers, or wolves. More to match my transmogs than for any other reasons.
Scalehides hit slow, but very hard. Lowest level scalehide I have found is a level 12 on the hill behind the gallows in Rachet.
Thank you so much
And there is a glyph you can get that makes your pet a bit smaller if thats an issue for ya.
Not really enough of a change in size to matter much.
Don’t know if it’s still bugged, but if you tamed one of the cranes in the pool with the frogs in the Panda starter area, the tamed hunter pet would be about the size of a pet-battle pet - about knee-high to a panda. The mini-size persisted through death and stabling.
There’s a stable master in the zone but IIRC, you can’t access him until shortly before you leave the zone. If the mini-size still occurs, you could use a pair of them with Animal Companion.
There’s no difference in pet damage once they’re tamed.
But yes, clefthooves are usually considered the best solo PVE pet due to having leech, lust, defensive CD, and blood of the rhino (+10% armor and +20% healing received).
There’s a website called Petopia that has every tameable pet in the game with pics, locations, etc.
You are right. I forgot that they normalized attack speed and corresponding hit power with SL.
Clefthooves are best solo pet hands-down. They have more armor and self-healing than any other pet, and thick hide is a great, passive tanking ability that has saved my pet’s life many times, and alerted me to the fact that his health is low when I wasn’t really paying attention. And there is something to be said for using 1 pet over 2 pets. A single clefthoof will tank better because it’s doing more damage, but 2 clefthooves will provide better healing to you through mend pet. So pick the pet for the job.
Prior to getting Exotic Beasts, any ferocity pet will do. Anyone advising anything but clefthooves is wrong. Corehounds, scalehides, and spirit beasts don’t even come close.
I use spiders mostly. I just like them.
Wolves too.
Clefthoof for BM. Scalehide for MM/SV.
I run Wolf when doing world content as it has a snare, so I don’t have to bother with conc shot.
They do in terms of overall utility. Core Hounds have the damage shield, Scalehides provide the same leech, and Spirit Beasts can heal you in addition to themselves, plus SotF.
But in terms of the biggest, baddest, hardest to kill pet available? Clefthoof. Accept no substitutes.

No, they don’t. The Clefthoof tanks more and heals itself and you for more than any other pet. There is no situation to take any of those other 3 over a clefthoof unless you just like the look of them. And I’m not saying they’re bad pets, but the clefthoof is mathematically the best pet outside of pvp.
OK, the spirit beast is a bad pet, but so is every other tenacity pet. I don’t know why people are still advising them. 8% piddly extra hp, no leech, and spirit mend hasn’t been worth using since it was nerfed. There’s literally no reason to ever use a tenacity pet. They’re basically dead weight.
For me its the Carrion birds, clefhoof, devilsaur and Scorpid
I like the Hippo pet for my main but i pvp a lot and it as a tank pet gives ya more Hps and has a bleed effect that is needed in pvp plus she is cute as a button. Im not sure how this works for dungeons or raids however but any out door world content even in elite areas i have never had any trouble
