Maining this mage for DF and have been working on just questing out the zones and running dungeons for gear. I am way behind but I am having fun so it’s all good. It will be a little while with my play pace and inability to find a guild who’s raid schedule fits my play times before I am raid ready. But I am at a point where I want to start dumping some time in to professions. I am currently a Herbalist/Alchemist. Just wondering what the outlook is like for making some gold with that combo. Or what is a good combination for the amount of time you have to put in to make a decent amount of gold. I don’t want to sink weeks into leveling a profession to not make any money doing it. I have always enjoyed herbalism alchemy because flasks and pots for raids still tend to sell pretty good all expansion long. What is the consensus?
well the gathering ones are the best due to the “lazy players” and players have two crafting professions
Here is the most real answer you’ll probably get…
- Don’t plan on making any significant amount of money from ANY profession.
- You will make a little bit of money for a lot of labor with gathering professions.
- Crafting professions will cost much more money to level than they will net you(with 2 caveats)
3a)Alchemy can save you money by increasing phial duration - thereby cutting your phial expenses in half.
3b)It is technically possible to make big money with a crafting profession, but only if you get lucky and find an ultra rare recipe within the first few days of a new patch(and have that profession and its’ associated specializations maxed out.)
TLDR; The only professions that are likely to make you any money at all are gathering professions and you’ll still have to put in a lot of work for little reward.
I play mostly as a casual but gold has been steady this expac. On average spend about 11 hours per day gathering when not doing other content. 19 hours per day on weekends.
Gold is flowing when you gather.
If I want my stack of ores I farmed to sell I’m undercutting the competition I don’t give a frick
I’m not playing the 1 copper undercut I’m undercutting you by gold, not a couple, a lot
gathering professions… crafting professions you’re not going to make money because you’re way to far behind the curve and didn’t get on the beginning of the expansion exploit…
That’s the truest answer. If you’re not sure, better take alchemy for double duration
I’m not sure why you’re sharing this, but I hear you. I too have no interest in playing the price fixing game. I do not care enough about a couple gold to spend more than a few moments attempting to maximize profits.
If something doesn’t sell in the AH I just vendor it right away.
11 hours per weekday
19 hours per day on weekends
math says that’s 93 hours a week
wowzers
Most of the gold comes from being innovative. Everybody rushed to level professions with no plan and just ended up losing a ton of gold in the process. People who gathered made a bit and still do.
You’re a prime example when people say they’re burned out too quickly
Because they refuse to pay $15
They’re pretty clearly joking.
On what planet does playing 11+ hours a day count as being a casual?
dont bother just buy tokens
Yikes. I guess this explains why so many mats are required these days. I enjoy modest amounts of gathering, but not that much.
BS - crafting weapons
JC - Gems, Rings, Lariat (Goodluck with recipe)
Alchemy - potions / phials (save money with extra phial length, reduce negative effects, more healing from potions)
You could go with mining and smelt literal gold…
Though it sells for only a few silver… ?
when I played retail most of my gold came from random rare BoEs that sell for like 20k for some reason lol. I made a lot of gold on tables in previous expansions. The mythic raiders don’t like stuff like that so they removed it.
When DF released I made so much gold on herbs, I currently have enough to renew my sub for 6 more months. Last time I looked at the AH in retail the prices on all herbs were so low it made me laugh. Is there any info on profession updates for 10.1? Maybe you can get an idea on what makes gold looking at the new stuff?
I made a something over 300K this week. Some being from quests, most being from professions that are not gathering. But I operate like 4 professions too, with one started within’ the last month, when people were all “oh, it’s too late to start now”.
Jewelcrafting being the winner (because I have lariat). Inscription and Blacksmithing sees love, but not as much.
Heck, I even took an old lvl 60 toon I don’t play up to the new island, got the recipe, leveled its Jewelcrafting up to 50, scored an easy 2K+ from public orders of people too lazy to ask if anyone does personals instantly.
There’s a lot of ups and downs, but for me, alchemy is the one that’s consistently decent through every expansion.
