Best professions for a mage for PVE end game?

I wanted to go herb/alchemy for maximum wizardry, but I was looking at end game tailoring recipes and they are really nice, some BiS. What’s the best professions for a mage for PVE end game/raiding?

engineering and tailoring

Depends on your goals. If you want to absolutely maximize your money, go Enchanting + and either Herbalism or Tailoring.

Reason why enchanting is big is because as a Mage, you can solo a lot of content, meaning if you get low value blue items, you can disenchant them on the spot for higher value shards, while vendoring big ticket weapons for raw gold.

Tailoring as you mentioned, has several lucrative patterns, including the ever important 16 slot and greater bags, while requiring no real gathering profession which makes Enchanting/Tailoring an ideal combination.

Herbalism is a big money maker for the sheer fact that at end-game, flasks and potions are a big deal, and unlike stuff like Leatherworking and Blacksmithing, is not a one and done profession.

People WILL be needing mats to craft more consumables on a regular basis. Wait until demand increases when more people hit 60 and start selling off your stockpile.

The other thing about being a supplier for your local Alchemist, is that unlike Devilsaur leather, etc, flasks and pots never go obsolete as new content rolls out.

The magic profession for any class… layer abuse.

Basically this, then once you got everything you want from tailoring you are free to drop it and pick up a different profession to use. If you want to farm gold pick up skinning for aoe farming or alchemy for potions. Enchanting is also a profitable route for you to go. Then again keeping tailoring is not a bad choice either.

As for engineering it is a must for any pve min maxer.

Are there going to be new tailoring recipes added into the game with the upcoming content patches/new raid like Naxx and Ahn’Qiraj?

Yes, they are adding in some in later patches, so it is something to consider. I do know if you are a warlock there is a BiS set of gear that requires you to have tailoring to get the set bonus. Mages can use this as well but I am not sure if this is a bis set of gear for them. The set name is called bloodvine if you are interested and it won’t come out until phase four.

The big thing would be to check and see if there are any pieces that are BoP as those will be the hardest to get. For example all three cloth caster classes, warlock, mage and priest have a class set that you can only get by crafting it for yourself. On the bright side this set is already in the game so you can obtain it as soon as you get the recipe/skill need to craft them.

I am currently a tailor myself, but even I don’t know if I am going to keep it or trade it in later for a better profession. There are definitely uses if you want to get in on the bag market.

Bruh, just go enchant/tailor and be the mage that you’re meant to be!

edit: I say this because that combo has always seemed to be the mage thing.

This is what I’m doing currently, gives you a nice stable income, gear, and many perks for Pve as well as pvp

Enchanting is only good if you have the high end formulas like crusader.

For money, go alchemy/herbalism. Consumables have to always be replenished. Okay for PvP when you always have Free Action Potions in your bag.

For raiding/pve, go tailor for robe of the archimage (you can choose to drop it after until ZG when Bloodvine set is available). Make okay gold with bags and mooncloth.

For PvP, engineering hands down.

I’m not a mage but I went with tailoring/mining. I’m about to drop mining once I farm enough mats to power level engineer plus for all the toys I need to make.
