My brother and I will be leveling together as a team, me as a priest, him as a warrior. Would it be best to maximize my healing abilities to support him thru my holy talent tree, or should I also focus on dps talents as well to help kill mobs more quickly? What talent strategy would best compliment leveling with a warrior?
I don’t have any experience with a priest, so I would love input. We aren’t looking to break any records, just wanna level effiecienty and be well suited for 5 man runs along the way.
I would probably prefer to be holy, but would be open to other specs if it would be healing overkill for leveling. I don’t wanna just stand around bored while I wait for him to kill stuff if I could be contributing in other ways.
You should still level shadow but with 5/5 wand. Your wand will help kill stuff. Sitting around waiting to heal him isn’t worth doing. Just heal as need be and that’s more than enough.

Level shadow anyway. Faster kills = faster xp and you can heal fine as shadow.
A priest leveling with a warrior can literally faceroll the spec tree and be fantastic.
But seriously, a priest with a wand + a warrior = 0 downtime, regardless of either’s specs.

Shadow. You can still heal all dungeons perfectly fine.
Ya you want to maximize your damage, the faster you kill things the more xp you get.

Can heal any dungeon.
Go 5/5 wand asap then get all shadow talents. At 40 Respec out of wands and go shadowform then next 5 points back into wands.

The one he enjoys playing. The important parts of being a priest or a War dont come until after 60 and some gear.

5/5 wand (free damage), 3/3 renew (highly recommended), 2/2 searing light (nice for nukes), inner focus, and holy nova.
If you’re on PVP, you could consider 5/5 will, 3/3 recovery, as players will target you while ignoring any friends. Inner focus is also a really nice one to have for player fights.

Normal leveling build for the priest.
Make sure the warrior knows you need the last hit on each mob for mana efficiency.
So comparing holy and shadow before lvl 40
Holy gets:
5% crit on holy spells(smite, holy fire, heals)
.5s reduced cast on holy
Holy nova + 15% more healing renew + 1 filler
10% more holy dmg +20% more holy range + 1 filler
25% spirit = spell dmg
Shadow gets:
Spirit tap
99% hit with shadow(vs 96,95,94 for 0,+1,+2)
Mind flay + 2.5s reduced cd on mind blast

So it doesnt look like you dont gain all that much with shadow before lvl 40 so you might wanna go holy till 40 then respec shadow.
Get wands, spirit tap, and the rest down holy - pick up random third dps as much as is reasonably convenient and supervise everyone’s heal bars. If you are pvp server and always have your warrior, you probably want to be a healer because you can probably win all 2s and most 3s (assuming you didn’t have a massive overpull of mobs to start with).
Searing light is a good dps talent for your smite. If you are just down the holy tree, you get spirit to spellpower long before you would get any spellpower on gear.

Wand/spirit tap first (can mix it up and go 1 wand 1 tap every lvl).
At lvl 18 you will get new ranking dot and shield, and you should have a 12+dps wand from a quest by then.
This is when you can start pulling 3+mobs as a priest, by tab dotting and getting a few mobs and then fearing them, wand/dps them then dot em up again when dots fade off and wand em down (keep urself healed of course).
Priests are really good solo lvlers when in the right hands. gl.
Just put you skill points into damage so you can level faster.
Or you can get a 11.3 dps wand at lvl 5 if you have like 60 linen(tailoring, 30 bolts should get you to 30 tailoring, 10 brown linen robes should get you 2 lesser essence and a dust as well as lvl 10 enchanting. Create a runed rod for 1 dust and 1 lesser essence. Then make a lesser magic wand for 1 essence.)
Get 5/5 Wand and go Shadow for zero downtime. Healing 5m up until the lv.60 ones is just too easy. If you absolutely need some holy talents for your group, just get 5/5 crit, 5/5 divine fury, and 3/3 inspiration. Maybe 2/2 healing focus if you’re getting hit a lot for some reason. It’s easy, good luck!
