The wolves in SFK are 1.2 attack speed and provide howl buff. not a bad choice if you can’t get The Rake.
Yea a bit of a dry spell there.
Closest it seems is the armored boars from RFK - lvl 28 for Black one. (from classic petopia site)
That said … I really do like the owls for leveling/aoe farming but you have to get them very early on.
At this point I’d go with the boar though. Kinda the ‘black lab’ of hunter pets. Easy to maintain, has a useful cool ability (charge) which can be pretty clutch in pvp situations as well as pve. They get Dash too.

Cats are the best pets.
- Cats have the highest overall modifiers for any pet. They get -2% to hp, 0% to armor, and +10% to dps.
- Mountain lions, needles cougars, or swamp jaguars are easy to find and have 1.2 attack speed.
- Faster attack speed = more crits = more frenzy procs = more dps and aggro.
- Cats can learn both Bite and Claw. The only other pet that can learn both is bears.
- At lower levels, Bite and Claw is enough to maintain aggro, you don’t even need Growl, which means more dps.
- Cats can learn the most amount of skills. Bite, Claw, Prowl, Dash, Cower.
Best of all, you can kill elite mobs 2-3 levels higher than you easily with a cat. This is my rotation for killing elites that are +3 levels higher than me.
- Turn off Growl.
- Lay down Frost Trap.
- Send cat to attack elite.
- Shoot distracting shot and kite the mob around the frost trap for 30 seconds while your cat attacks it.
- Shoot arcane shot, multishot, autoshot when you can.
- When frost trap ends the mob should be around 60%-50% health, very easy to kill afterwards.

I think at my level right now I will get a cat. Possibly a boar also later on also when I get to a higher level.
And also the highest dps.
Go to Pettopia and use the classic section regarding pets and where to tame pets with new ranks of claw/bite/screech ect…
Get a boar when you’re within 2-3 levels of it. Leveling a low pet is not worth the time unless its broken tooth OR you just have that kind of time lol.

Broken tooth is the best for PvP and the best for overall dps while leveling (since you should be leveling BM and he triggers frenzy the most). That said, if you’re on a full server, good luck. Took me a week doing it a few hours at a time getting up super early in the AM to avoid the crowds (and even then, usually had competition). Some of the lower pop ones might not be so bad.
Did… did I read that right? Did you really travel to Teldrasil as a Horde member? At level 10? Aren’t you forced to travel through Darnassus to even enter the zone?
If I remember right, Crocolisks have bad attitude which make them snap back at whatever hits them. Holds agro well.
+1. It takes a little while to get them to the point where they are on a par with others, but then they streak ahead. I’ve got Claw, Screech, and Dive, and it’s tanky while dishing out damage and holding aggro. IMO a cat looks better, but the owl is hard to beat.
Little buggers are fussy eaters though. Meat only, no fish or bread.
I am liking owl as a pet so far. Gave mine growl and screech and it can tank 2 similar level mobs at a time while I just pick them off. Never seems to lose aggro either so they make for good tanks and are fast.
Boar or Owl for soloing. Owl for dungeons for the screech debuff. Wolf for raids for the Furious howl buff.
Boars eat anything if I recall correctly.
Gotta keep them happy!
I like apes myself.
And gets you into a whole load of trouble if you’re not careful.
