Best mage race whole game all criteria can fit give opinion open to everything

I finished leveling my shaman up. This guy! I’m proud of it. Next on list is mage Because if you go to character select screen, mage is right below shaman and I went in order starting with warrior, SO MAGE IS NEXT! MAGE!. I don’t care faction either will work for me. Tell me the best races you guys think of! I don’t care what the reasoning behind it is, JUST SUGGEST!!! I don’t care if it is min max, or just because it looks cool, animations, ANYTHING!!! SUGGEST!!!

I think it really depends on what aesthetic you want and what spec you want.

My thoughts on ones I like based on lore and aesthetic:

Horde:
Belf: Fire or Arcane
Vulpera: Fire or frost
Undead: All three work real well
Troll: fire or arcane
NIghtbourne: arcane

Alliance:
Velf: Frost or Arcane
Nelf: Arcane
Gnomes: all three
Dwarves: fire
dranae: arcane

From a lore standpoint… every Archmage was a Human… but that might have been a human pride thing…

Blood Elves are supposed to be very powerful magic users… though their racial abilities don’t really reflect this all that well…

Nightborne have a bonus to all magic damage period… and lore wise they are absolute masters of arcane, second to no other race on Azeroth.

Void Elves have the nice benefit of not having their casts delayed by taking damage

The crit bonus can be helpful for fire mage fishing procs before the thirty percent HP threshold and the magic dispel racial is decent for M+, so there is some rp flavor there. Most racials at the moment don’t make a significant difference in content 99.9% of the playerbase will see though besides nelf shadowmeld.

Blood elves are the original mages.

I think trolls technically, but those trolls became nelves, those nelves became helves, and so on.

Gnome. The right answer is Gnome. We have extra mana, extra haste and escape artist (even in it’s thrice nerfed form is still helpful at times).

Though Void Elves immunity to pushback is very nice but they don’t look as good in a dress as we do.

This is actually best in slot for Warrior PvP Alliance-side if memory serves.

Yeah. I tried playing a Dranei Frost Mage and it just felt… wrong.

Lightforged Draenai get that extra AoE blast on a timer so its amusing to play as a mage.

Dranaei in general just seem like such a thematic race that I struggle to use them ever. Arcane works b/c purple and it fits their glowy space rock look.

I’d be interested in an eredar-colored demon hunter if they ever added it for the full demon experience.

Trolls never practiced the arcane. It wasn’t until the night elves started messing with it under Azshara’s rule, which led to the sundering and the banishment of those highborne which became blood elves.

The trolls picked up the arcane when they were at war with the blood elves. Humans also learned it from the blood elves.

The trolls who became the original night elves did so due to arcane usage.

I’d like to see a source for this.

Arcane is actually part of their lore, and fits in pretty nicely.

Shamanism on the other hand… :disappointed:

Look up dark trolls on wowpedia. They found the well of eternity and it made them into the first night elves.

That happened because they lived on draenor for thousands of years, right? It kinda fizzled out in lore after BC didn’t it?

They only lived on Draenor for about 200 years or so. The Broken were the first Draenei Shaman, and they only became so sometime after the formation of the Horde and the drinking of Mannoroth’s blood.

Playable Draenei Shaman learned shamanism from the Broken.

Chronicles stated that Dark Trolls became Night Elves due to the Well of Eternity’s energies. It didn’t state they used Arcane magic at the time.

Technically, according to Chronicle Mogu are the first race on Azeroth to use Arcane magic, at least counting after the departure of the Titans. In terms of what we have playable in the game, the Mogu made a deal to teach the Zandalari Arcane magic, so if you only count playable races, it would be Zandalari Trolls.

The well of eternity is pure arcane magic, though, and I’m assuming that there were transitionary stages between trolls and the first nelves, and azshara eventually came from that society in time. I know she was the most powerful arcane magic using nelf but I doubt she was the only one or the first one.

This is right. Unless you were RPing a long lost dark troll for a troll character.

Azshara’s origins are never outright stated. Though it does mention that they initially believed Elune was sleeping within the well of Eternity, and that’s where they got Elune worship from.

Also Cenarius taught them about nature during this period, and they became somewhat Druidic. It mentions that eventually some of them “longed for a different life” and “became learned sorcerers”, which could mean that they didn’t begin with mages at all.

troll mage, trolls are just the best looking imo, then humans in second, armor just looks sexy on them too.
