? Confused as to how shifting out/in of forms helps DPS. Even for the initial +energy it will OOM a druid after about 5 shifts. And the helm has no real feral druid stats so after the first openers itâs kind of useless.
The reason those items are best-in-slot is because they exploit pecularities in the way feral dps is calculated. That level 40 head piece is amazing because it doesnât increase dps, but energy. That means it scales with the rest of your gear and was literally best-in-slot for cat dps until about Tier 5 raiding in TBC. This was clearly unintended by Blizz and why now no other item gives energy.
MCPs exploit the fact that, of all of the melee classes, ONLY ferals donât care about weapon dps. As a result, thereâs a random level 29 item with a use effect that is GODLY for all melee classes but its low weapon dps means itâs useless for everyone at level 60 â except cats. If this were a level-1 item with 5 dps and no stats, it would still be best-in-slot for cats because of the use effect. Once again, unintended by Blizz.
There is no level-60 epic that can be itemized to beat these items without replicating those effects.
It gives you 20 energy. Which canât do anything. Again. How often are you going to be able to shift in and out of cat form for 20 energy? About 5 times. 100 energy does not beat out 1% hit Agility, Strength, Crit for a whole fight.
100 Energy is 2 Shreds. Just an FYI (assuming youâre speced into it)
This helm is amazing in PvP, shifting into Bear for an instant charge then back into cat for some dps. Itâs hard to beat that. Played right you can Pounce, Shred, Bear form Charge, Bash, Shred Shred, now the opponent is finally not stunned.
I donât think you understand the dps jump from power shifting in raids. When fights last a few minutes a feral druid can boost damage by up to 30% with mana pots, innervate, etcâŚ
There was guides built around that helm for PVE that made feral druids pull damage equal to hunters.
Innervating a feral druid⌠Probably could go to a healer or someone that could use it more.
The druids that can âpullâ those types of numbers also need a MCP. Itâs a gimmick. The powershift jumping does give a good burst of dps, but if the fight drags on for any reasonable amount of time the dps is lost to raw stats.
The helm is good for trash pulls, short boss fights, but again, itâs mainly used in PvP.
You combine it with Furor, which grants you 40 energy every time you shift into cat form, and time your shifts so that they synchronize with energy ticks to get 80 Energy every time. This allows you to spam your abilities reliably through fights. MCP covers most of the rest.
Itâs not a optimal spec and by design its fun and allows a feral to pull a bit more dps. Its good in pvp as well. As i stated before, there was guides based on the helm that allowed ferals to pull close to hunters in terms of dps.
Again, itâs a gimmick. A Druid w/o MCP and only using this helm doesnât get a huge increase in dps without them using their innervate and mana potions.
A druid can already shape shift in and out til OOM and get 60 energy from Furor. Again, you do this 5 times (without Innervate) and itâs only +100 energy.
ok, look I know you havenât theorycrafted this and it seems unintuitive, but it works. With 5/5 Furor, every shift with the helm gives you 60 energy. With 2/2 Improved Shred, each Shred is 44 energy.
5/5 Natural Shapeshifter reduces shifting costs by 30% and and 5/5 Heart of the Wild increases your Intellect by 20%.
When you use Intellect elixirs and drink Mana pots, you can shift a LOT without running out of mana. And you have Innervate.
Like I said, I know it sounds counter-intuitive, but it absolutely works. When you do the dps improvement calculations for cat helms, here is their relative weight:
Those are relative weightings, of course, based on projected additional dps. But itâs not a typo to say that, if you are willing to powershift for cat dps, the Wolfshead Helm is almost 5 times better than any other leather helm in the entire game.
But thatâs the thing. You donât NEED this helmet to power shift. You can power shift w/ 5 points in Furor. If all the other weightings are from druids powershifting using mana potions and innervate it would look alot different. Minus the 1 helm.
Your data is bias as the only druid powershifting is the one with Wolfshead.
Yes the 20 energy lets you get out a Shred slightly faster, but thatâs not going to outweigh raw stats in a 5+ min fight.
