from my own experience so far this seas, before we get all the power bloat in a few weeks:
feels like we’re still really good with the abominations that are dh and ww right now. ele boom feels good but it’s comparatively harder to do lethal damage. haven’t played much else yet
twdb+kindred surges are going to top out over 25k when everybody’s got 85k hp so the burst should be insane when we play stuff that lets us get setups
I was playing dancing with 4 set for a few matches and seemed to really hurt people with timeworm, I could spam like 7 starsurges every kidney and would be hitting 17-18k surges with rogue damage was really rough for healers.
Without timeworn of course I still only hit like 15k max surge crits. Of course max gear will raise that a bit but…
Honestly a lot of things still work with boomy.
Dh, war, ww, mage, rogue, spriest, ele, etc. Aff lock may be nasty, dancing with sin might actually be really strong, I mean boomy is viable with a lot of comps. It’s just not nearly as crazy by itself as many other specs. I.e I still don’t expect it to see any tourney play or anything like that. It’s honestly too squishy and doesn’t have the burst of others.
the pad build supatease keeps clickbaiting with is probably gonna work with a few comps too, i think what will limit our comp choices this season are partners that can get us out of sticky situations like kidney shiv or spear sharpen more than partners that have a lot of setup tools. what fyshles said sounds promising to me, threatening to dump a lethal amount of instant damage into basically any stun go
i need to watch some more of the awc vods from today and the coming weekend to find out how effective bear/plate armor is at and against full gear
i don’t feel squishy in the sense that i easily get 100-0d by anything below the bar that threatens to 100-0 everything in the game, like retwar or rmp. mostly just feels like we have to play stuff where we can trade a bit of healer mana to get important casts off or we’re destined to lose eventually by doing 0 dps swapping between bear and travel, but ymmv
I play necro into every comp. I just like it more.
But what I mean by squishy is that we rely on frenzy and barkskin to survive things. Obviously with bear. So we feel tanky in the sense that we can take more of a sustained beating compared to like, a mage without shields or something, however there’s times during a go like a shiv kidney, sharpen spear, any psyfiend lockdown go, etc, that seem impossible to live even if we do trinket. So in those situations often times someone else needs to press as well as us which feels bad. This is directly because healing keeps getting less and less effective both as damage increases and the meta evolves, and as dampening sets in.
I’ve had so many times where I had auto frenzy available and died before it even procced because it was too fast. Recovering from health is far less valuable than avoiding it entirely and while using skin in a stun feels great, 20% just isn’t enough against the big damage spells. Sometimes it is if the damage is linear but when it’s gigantic chunks… it just feels lack luster. All in all our defensives feel great sometimes and useless other times. I do enjoy utilizing movement and stuff to avoid damage. It’s fun; it’s just you’re bound to get caught eventually. Typically people trinket to press a wall or something to temporarily guarantee them safety. If I trinket an RPS go, I had better use my time to get some cc out somehow because my healing isn’t going to cut it and unless you’re running bash, there’s often not much to press.
All in all though, I love the offensive portion and the kiting. Kyrian will likely be the go to cov for almost all comps but I think I’m gonna make necro work the best I can.
Outlaw/boom/Hpriest would be disgusting
more power to ya, but i refer specifically to playing stellar drift and starburst every game as necro. i don’t imagine that flies in every matchup
i would call this just a taxonomical disagreement; i think of it as us relying on barkskin, teammates, and good preparation to survive things. frenzy is mostly outside it, i think of it as something we do when we break free from a go, like a few free regrowths or refreshing earth shield. tho i’m sure frenzy is gonna be way more consistent for necro next week when you have a much higher chance to have swarm on yourself at any given time
Ah, yeah twin moons is hard to give up. Not only is it 10% on my most damaging global but it also saves globals from reapplying pretty often. Hard to give up but I could see drift being super rot. Never tried it to be honest.
Well, relying on teammates is something everyone has to do at some point but it becomes a problem when surgically trading trinkets and buttons is the plan of attack and your particular trinket holds no value. But like I said I do agree that proactive playstyle types like boomys are fun. It’s definitely one of the better specs at avoiding danger with the trade off as one of the worst dealing with extreme danger when caught. My experience anyway.

I don’t know if he’s made a single video that wasn’t relatively clickbait-y. That being said, I really do like the spec. You can drop Star Burst for Protector/High Winds, and just run Faerie Swarm as default into dbl melee/caster melee and it doesn’t feel like you lose anything.
It really does remind me of some of the more dot oriented iterations of boomy.
