IS wowup a safe place to get addons? i really do not trust overwolf ive herd bad things about them and dont really like manually doing them.
I use curse forge but I don’t care for it much outside of how convenient it is.
I’m interested to see if there are better alternatives.
Thank you, i had to replace a new pc i bought because something i downloaded screwed my old pc up bad (starded having 50% disk usage with nothing even running) and ive been scared to download anything outside of wow since getting a new pc lol
Is it that hard just to copy them into the addon folder?
Not hard at all. This is just a bit nicer when you can leave it running in the background and it just updates as things get updated. Installing them yourself is not hard but if you can just hit update all and walk away wouldn’t you rather just do that?
Edit. Just deleted curse forge for Wowup. Soooo much nicer on the Mac then the curse client and this actually has the admins I use where curse didn’t have a lot of them (elvui and a few others)
I tried Twitch and didn’t like it. But I do really like CurseForge client.
If you manually update all your addons, i feel sorry for you. The majority of needed addons get updated on almost weekly basis.
Agreed. Plus, I’d rather be doing it myself. If something goes wrong and the site gets compromised, then your client isn’t going to mindlessly toss malware into your folder while you remain clueless and oblivious to the fact.
Trust me, you’re more likely to get malware from anywhere else than Curseforge or twitch.
Besides, if your PC is that exposed, you should probably address it and invest into proper security measures. It’s 2021 after all.
No, my PC is not that exposed, and yes I know I’m more likely to get malware elsewhere, but there is such a thing as playing it safe. It’s also a reason why I stopped using Facebook, especially due to the insane legions of Cancel Culture idiots that love to dox you for the littlest thing they disagree with.
Or do you think your credit card number on file with Amazon or Netflix is totally 100% safe?
I have 31 addons. I not want manual update all of them. I like Wowup.
I use curseforge/Overwolf its one and the same thing , have 75 addons and never had any issues
I have been using Overwolf since early Nov and I have yet to experience any issues with it. Hell I even use it for Minecraft just fine. Yeah, they had some issues a few years back but it looks like they aren’t making the same mistakes with their WoW client.
Personally I use WowUp because it has no advertisements, I have experienced no malware, etc from it, and it keeps me up to date. It’s a simple click update all or update a single add-on system. Plus it pulls from multiple repositories, including tuk-ui, curseforge, WoW Interface, etc.
I’ve had bad experiences in the past with Overwolf and it’s malicious ads. I’ll never touch it again. WowUp works perfectly for me.
I use Curse Forge and haven’t had a problem with addons.
I use ajour (since I don’t see any feature differences I’d care about, so i’d prefer to stick to open source options), but I think any of the popular ones are fine.
Doesn’t really matter which client you use. Except for WowInterface and TukUI, all the clients get their addons from Curseforge servers. Curseforge is owned by Overwolf. If Overwolf is a bad actor and out to infect your machine with malware, you can be sure that they can take a few milliseconds per download to shove that crap into any ZIP file for any addon.
Use the addon manager that you find works for you. They all have the same capability to infect your machine.
not hard, just tedious when checking for updates and updating them.
Yep been using Wowup since addons got dumped off Twitch…haven’t had any issues with it all…works great small program…
