Besides WoW, I can't seem to enjoy other games that much anymore

Well usually, it’s more or less come down to… “There is no other game like wow”, though one could argue that other games that does have elements of WoW in terms of how it does it content or such… Maybe you enjoyed how WoW does it, or maybe WoW has something that other games don’t have?

And before anybody says it, it’s not addiction. WoW isn’t the only game that leaves somebody with that feeling. Any video game can do this. Skyrim and GTA comes to mind, to a certain point of view (or mine, more specifically in an opinion sense), because they were amazing to set their expectations pretty high for other games in that particular genre or others like it and pretty much change their views on what games can be. Simply put, if the game isn’t open world or full to the brim with content or very sandboxy to them, they might not find it interesting.

You’re a man of culture.

Also, Spore still has it’s servers? Now that’s news. Kind of wish EA would get Maxis back to fix the game the very least…

Honeslty, anything doesn’t have the same sort of magic when we were kids. I felt that way with GTA VC when i was a kid.

No, i mean i’m getting older and i still enjoy the video games i’ve played when i was a kid. I just think it’s more or less repetition just sinking in.

I wouldn’t call it apathy, as much it’s a burnout. Personally, i just try to diversify my hobbies by having movies (recently got all 3 Austin Powers movies and Labyrinth.) in the mix, even though my primary hobby (in time spent that is) is Video games.

I’ve never played Halo.

Because the older ones in the same franchise are much better then their respective new ones. Infact, that’s sort of the case for a lot of other games these days.

Missing out

1/2/3/ODST/Reach are basically some of the greatest FPS’s ever made in gameplay/design/story telling that have ever been made

If you can ever get the Master Chief Collection on sale (like 25$? bucks to get all the games) I really recommend it

World of Warcraft has one the best satisfying and combative gameplay there is to an RPG, nothing really comes close. Well, There was Neverwinter, but unfortunately, it removed its diverse gameplay.

I think the closest would be Warframe, however, its diverse gameplay is limited to the installed mods, weapons, and the Warframe itself.

I do think Warframe borrowed a ton of fun features from WoW, however, its combat most relies on mashing one button, two, if it’s the overpowered Bullet-Jump (RS) Ground-pound combo.

Warframe combat is diverse, mindless, yet fun while Shadows of War combat is complex, rewarding, and very satisfying.

WoW’s combat is a simple, diverse, and very fun.

I’ve played WoW with enough older players (50-70+) to know that it isn’t a matter of age.

Sometimes it helps to have a break, not just from WoW, but from video games in general. There are other ways to spend time that don’t involve sitting in front of a screen. Take a look and see if there’s something else that you might enjoy. Maybe check back and see if you enjoy video games again in a while when you feel more refreshed.

MMOs have definitely turned me into a more multiplayer focused gamer. It’s very rare for a single player game to hold my interest these days unless it’s really engaging, or is something I can share with a group.

Myself, I can’t enjoy other mmo’s anymore.

As for games, I find enjoyment when I play the right type for me.

I do not like pvp, so anything that has competion among players is a big no.

I do enjoy social games, but I hate not being able to play whenever I want to because my friends are not free. After all, we are all adults now and it is hard to get the group together to play.

I enjoy single player rpgs. A lot. But to play them, I need to have a lot of free time ahead of me because I usually sink 100 hors+ on them. Damn you, Witcher! That is the good side of wow content droughts, I guess.

And sometimes I try something new. I’ll probably start Hollow Knight in a few weeks, as I’m almost done with my goals in 9.1.

Civilization 6 is a game I love to play too.

Okay but… OP is specifically talking about not enjoying games anymore… but isn’t trying new games?

Have you tried a really good single-player RPG? Red Dead Redemption/Witcher/Skyrim?

I couldn’t help but notice that you don’t have any of those on your list. Give them a whirl.

Age is definitely a factor. You just need to go back to what makes you want to play certain games, sims in this case. For me, it’s anything that is story driven that looks interesting in the first person shooters and single player rpg genre. It was what drew me in to WoW after a friend begged me to play with him back in Classic when I balked at paying monthly fees for games.

WoW is also highly addictive and rewarding. When I was raiding and doing pvp back then, I had no desire to play any other games. That could be why other games don’t interest you much. It might take you quitting WoW like I did for other games to interest you again.

Have you tried out Factorio or Satisfactory? Both are building games that are highly regarded.

Burnout is a thing, so is habitualism, try a game that’s entirely reflex based like EFT, that’ll keep your focus like WoW, but use a different reflex set.

Same issue here :frowning: WoW can catch my attention span but nothing else can, maybe it’s the social aspect?

Reach, 2, and 3 are some of my favorite games that I grew up on and whenever I can grab a friend for MCC I love blasting through legendary - highly recommend playing them to anyone wanting a good game to play

I agree. For a lot of us it’s been years and years of wow. You don’t have to turn your brain on really at all to play. It’s like watching the same tv shows over and over for comfort. You gotta get less depressed (or whatever the underlying issue is) so you can feel good so you can focus so you can enjoy playing games cause it sounds like OP is just curising azeroth with his burnt out brain because it’s easier than doing anything else. I’ve definitely been there.

My guess would be that you actually just like WoW more than other games.

There are a ton of thing the devs do that aggrivate players, the game design is certainly questionable at times, but I still like it more than the alternatives. Mostly because of the BGs and Epic BGs.

If I can get gear from that content without having to raid or mythic+, I’m reasonably happy.

Or its just nostalgia.

That is a good point. Unfortunately, I am on a budget, I just graduated from college and I have to save money to pay out my student loans and have 2 part-time jobs atm.

I would LOVE to play RDR2, but I don’t have a lot of money to buy it. I am not really interested in the Witcher. For Skyrim, for a while I wanted to play it, but my parents had a rule that I play only a certain amount of games as long as it is educational (Zoo Tycoon, Spore) unique (The Sims) and has some nice art (WoW), they didn’t like Skyrim for the art style (which I disagree) and think that I would be playing too many games. I was at High School when Skyrim was released and they told me when I get older, I should buy Skyrim. But I have spent a long time in college after high school and eventually, I outgrew my interest in Skyrim. :frowning:

I think part of it is just getting older, I used to be able to play anything and get into it, but now my time is valuable and if a game doesn’t click automatically I stop playing.

That said, I really enjoyed AC Valhalla and will still play it just to mess around.

These days, I’m logging in to WoW every night, playing the game the way I want to play it, and having a great time.

Periodically, I need to take short breaks from the game for a day or two. When that happens, my trusty PS4 is waiting for me. It’s all good.

Have a look at Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice.

Single player linear RPG, as opposed to an open world romp like Skyrim, but god dammit its the best I’ve played. It’s one of the -only- games I’ve actually gone back and replayed just to experience it again. The other being Halo titles in general back in the day.

(note: I’m not counting multiplayer in that. I go back to play multiplayer in several games all the time)

Bonus points since you seem to be tight on time: It’s not an endless grind, it’s not a “spend 120 hours if you want to see everything” kinda game. You play through it, see what it has to offer, and you’re done in maybe 8 hours total.

Dunno if sim games are a fair comparison. Try something designed for the under 90 crowd

Oh, but it’s magical. /grin

You should give a try sometime. Heavily modded Skyrim is the most amazing story game. At any rate, I hope you find something to pique your interest. I find immersive story games for single players the most engaging when I’m burned out for a season on WoW.

Hi just to note this the same subject im on about (other games) i dont want because Blizzard games are the best anyways so all the other games i bought are just a waste of money basically. fyi
