Hey Everyone, I was wondering if you could help me understand the benthic gear from Najatar. Is this gear designed to be a replacement for dungeon gear and mythic plus gear? And, should I be filling myself out with benthic gear with the intention of upgrading with manapearls down the line?

If you’re looking to get decently geared before the next patch which is in like 16 days, I think M+ gear would be faster to get. The manapearl grind might take awhile.

I mean, it caps at 430 and thats the ilvl that drops from Nyalotha lfr. I guess it just depends what kind of endgame stuff you wanna do.

m10 gives you higher then 430 (440 or 450, brainfarting on that). so prob aim to do that

Pretty much. It was designed to be catch up gear for alts that ended up being a little overturned for the content with a bug they kept in involving sockets. While some pieces are best in slot in the raid, they are lack luster outside of it or when you can start to out gear those pieces.
Now there is a new set of catch up gear being released come patch. It has a higher ilevel and just as easy to come by for alts.

Benthic is basically just junk. The base level of it is fine for gearing up alts, and that’s about it unless you intend to be in Nazjatar for a while.

Very helpful, thanks! I will probably start running mythic plus and working my ilvl up that way. Being that I just started in Nazjatar and don’t have flying, I will try to catch up the best I can and then really put some work in with the start of 8.3
Uh… Benthic is BiS for 4 slots in Eternal Palace, even at the Mythic level.

EP is about to become as irrelevant in a week or two as Uldir is now, and OP is most likely not interested in fine-tuning and micromanaging a BIS raiding set.
You know, you can be wrong and admit it.
Benthic’s entire issue was that it was BiS for EP. Period.

No, the new stuff from the new area is actually “below” benthic.
(No, I mean the new Hub thing… with the catch up gear, the stuff you can do solo.)
Benthic is also pretty easy to get up to about 420, which is when I quit bothering since then it takes SOOOOOO many.

415, hmmm so I guess it really isn’t worth upping Benthic unless you easily have enough to make something 420.
LFR gear will be higher than Benthic. No reason to farm mana pearls in 8.3.

I wouldn’t fuss about benthic other than using it to replace low pieces for alts you may make in the future. It only works in EP and Naz, so any of the effects will become useless once we get into Nyo. Like for now it’s important for endgame content, but seeing as 8.3 is about 2 weeks away there isn’t a point in killing youself over leveling pieces up for it.

A few things I didn’t see mentioned:

You get A FEW pieces of Benthic, including I believe 1 or 2 upgraded to 400 for FREE when you complete the entire intro quests to Najz up to the point you are left collecting the Ornaments from EP. So no reason to not get those since they cost you nothing but the time to do the quests.

By then you’ll have enough mana pearls to buy the rest of your set, and unless you are saving them for the mount when you reach exalted (which you’ll have collected almost twice the cost by then) there is no reason to keep them, so might as well try to max whatever holes in your gear you might have.

What you shouldn’t bother with however, is to try to hunt a specific combo/proc/forge. THAT is not worth it anymore, since we are moving to a new patch in two weeks. Farming or burning manapearls to get the right stat distribution will not make that much of an impact in performance than playing the new patch and replacing most of the gear in the first two weeks.
Benthic is fantastic for alts, and especially good for Azerite gear when you upgrade the neck to the instant 35(?), because you’ll have at least 2 traits per piece to activate and use.

- go do that immediately so you can pick up the quest to kill Korrak. You can go kill him in Northrend one-shot and return it in AV for a FREE 400 ilvl Weapon.

Max is 445.
Mythic Raid Titanforged is 455.
At this point you’d rather spend your pearls, coils and oscilators into upgrading your essences as much as you possible can, those will still be very current in 8.3, gear will be replaced as soon as the patch launches with catch up mechanics.
The costs are being reduced in 8.3. You’d be wasting tons of pearls and oscilators buying upgrades now.
I’ve heard that the requirements are being lowered, that could mean that the rep grinds could get a much needed nerf. Do you have some patch notes? i’m interested.
I’m wondering what are going to do with CLF once EP is old content and no one will be running it.
