Benthic gear

Hello everyone. I have an honest and serious question. Why does the easiest content in the game, at present, reward the strongest gear in the game?

Moreso, if an individual exclusively plays the game at the most accessible level, free of the requirement to group up with others, why do they need said gear? To what end? Afaik there is nothing outside Mythic raiding that demands gear this strong (and if there is, then maybe have that reward alternative BiS gear?)

Is it not possible to receive rewards that not only scale to, but are relevant to the content you are enjoying?

If i enjoy PVP, and i am the best at PVP, can i please be rewarded with the best pvp gear?

If i am the rank 1 pet battler across all servers, with 7 world championship titles to my name, can i please have the cutest pet ever, with giant anime eyes that well up if said pet witnesses you killing a mob of the same family?

Mythic raiding requires the following:

  1. A strong cohesion between the 20+ players within your guild.

  2. Extensive study and experience regarding:
    a) Innumerable boss fights, all with different mechanics.
    b) Your specific role in each of those fights, and where you fit in, in terms of the bigger picture.
    c) Maximizing your personal efficiency regarding your spec. (including a knowledge of Traits, Talents & Tertiary stats and how to utilize them)
    d) An understanding of how to play other specializations of your class, when the need arises.

  3. Regular farming outside raid to maximize your efficiency as a raider and hold up your portion of the load carried between all 20 raiders (equally, hopefully).
    This includes:
    a) Mythic Plus dungeons
    b) Professions
    c) Raiding materials (gems, enchants, pots, flasks, runes)
    d) Any content necessary to obtain your BiS essences (which may not be the same for every boss, so be ready to farm)

  4. Discipline. Countless hours invested every week by all involved. Discussing strategies and poring over WarcraftLogs data well into the wee hours.
Collaborating with others in your class and discussing what works and what doesn’t. Sharing resources with each other in terms of guides, youtube videos, posts online or just more logs (so many logs).

All of this for gear that is lesser than what is rewarded from world content?

I don’t understand how this kind of decision is rationalized.

Finally, I understand that if you do not partake in Mythic raiding content, you may not appreciate the points i am making. Why should mythic raiders get all the fun gear?
Naturally as a Mythic raiding oriented player, i am looking at this from my point of view and how this affects myself, but this is essentially an issue with the homogenization of reward systems within the game.

Reward mythic raiders with the best raiding gear.
Reward elite PVPers with the best PVP gear.
Reward solo players with items that make the game more enjoyable from a solo perspective (pets, mounts, cosmetics, fun items to use in world zones or access to more of the content they enjoy)
Reward dungeon masters accordingly. Remember unique titles in Pandaria? 5 Players per realm who achieved the fastest clear for each dungeon were awarded a title specific to that dungeon. Gold clears awarded unique cosmetic rewards. Silver clears awarded unique mounts.

These unique facets of the game, by all rights, deserve their own unique rewards.

I hope you all have a nice day and thank you for reading my post.

Because without casuals there is no game.

Preach did a really good video on this recently as well.

M+ won’t have the benthic gear affixes enabled, so at least a lot of the raid gear will be useful in the dungeons.

On one hand, it’s nice to have a BIS slot that I can aim for. On the other hand, it sucks that 455 gear from the raid is worse than 425 gear with some tertiary abilities.

The easiest content does not reward the strongest gear. The hardest content rewards the strongest gear.

You can’t get 445 ilvl gear from world quests.

Although, right now, the reason that benthic gear is so strong, is it’s really strong within the eternal palace and nazjatar. So it may swing strong during this content patch, but people are still going to want to hang on to higher item level gear for when the next raid comes out and those bonuses don’t work anymore.

The benthic gear fully upgraded is better than max titanforge in Eternal Palace in some cases

You know what would have been an interesting fix? Some sort of raid-only drop that slots into the benethic gear.

This keeps benethic as an “alternative gear progression system”, and yet allows raiders to strengthen the gear in ways world-only players can’t.

…but only in Eternal Palace.

which is technically the hardest content in the game currently

Homogenization is bad, mmkay, except in dairy products. The game greatly suffers from everything being bland and boring.

Pretty sure you can upgrade benthic to 435/440 now. It costs like 300 manapearls per piece but I’m fairly certain you can do it.

Handing the baddies everything without effort continues to drive declines in subs. This has been the underlying truth since Cata

Just looking at the mechanics of the first raid boss (as a healer) I wanted to cry.

I have arthritis that’s beginning to effect my gaming and I can’t be bothered to dance around with twenty people some who do and don’t even know the fights in order to learn.

When I use to raid in Vanilla I didn’t have to deal with this crap. When you’re trying to focus on healing it’s hard to keep looking at your character to see if you should be running around again. The first real boss I can remember where you had to “dance” was Heigan the unclean and I HATED that fight because I sucked at it. It seems most fights have multiple little stupid dances now and it’s an overused annoying mechanic to me.

I’ve come to the conclusion that raiding probably isn’t for me anymore and back to your actual point, raiding is such hard work and it’s not rewarding at all. Compared to benthic gear where you can upgrade a piece by running around and doing something as meaningful as a pet battle to make it just as powerful as raid drop, that’s sad.

I’m not so sure anything is being designed with actual fun in mind anymore. This game is extremely unrewarding for the players who don’t want to play as Blizz wants them too. The ways they’re upping the played time metric would be acceptable if this were a F2P game but don’t gate me when I’m already paying you… many many aspects in BfA just gives me the bad feels all over.

Everybody has an opinion. Some would say that the problem with WoD was that the only thing to do was raid. Others insist the problem is the consistent poor writing. Many feel that there is too much grinding, or that content has been lackluster. Then there are those who blame the removal of content, such as flying or class pruning. The underlying truth is that most people who are potential players don’t have the time to progress in the game otherwise. Tailoring the game just to the few members who pour most of their time into this game makes the game inaccessible to most potential players. If most players can’t experience progression, why bother?

World quests don’t grant the best gear in the game. Unless I’m doing something wrong…

Been a while since I’ve seen such an unfounded excuse for loss of subs.

Published quarterly results prior to them simply giving up on reporting subs. sorry facts don’t fit you narrative.

I believe the theory is as follows:

  1. Finish WQ for benthic azerite.
  2. Upgrade benthic azerite to 440 (takes many many pearls to do so).
  3. 440 item level benthic azerite with EP-related traits > M+ 440 azerite with pre-EP traits, for raiding EP purposes.

Note: benthic azerite can be upgraded to 435, with empowerment would be 440.

Sorry, your speculations are not facts. Good try though!
