Benched for a 309. Is this normal?

I am posting with a different character to avoid drama and to maintain privacy for those guild mates who have nothing to do with the matter in question.

I was recently recruited to a semi-hardcore progression guild as DPS. For the past three weeks, I was invited to every raid. Except this week. This week, I was not invited for reasons unknown to me. I logged in close to our normal raid time anyway, and I asked if there was any room for me to join.

I first received a PM from a 309 Hunter with under 1000 achievement points that the guild needed its “A-Team.” I think that is ridiculous, because my character is 379 with nearly 7000 achievement points. This Hunter is listed as an alt.

I was then messaged by the guild founder in guild chat that due to the healer composition of that particular raid, there was no room. Also, PUGs would no longer be allowed because it caused tempers to “get heated.” This confuses me, because this was definitely not the reason I was given a moment ago, and because I am not a random PUG person, I am a guild member. It also confuses me, because I was not invited in the first place. And none of these new rules were discussed with me.

After that, I was PMed by my recruiting officer, who was very apologetic and said that I would get in eventually. I doubted that.

And so I quit. I gave the most to the guild bank this week, and saw nothing to show for it.

Is this normal for guilds? I was guildless for a long time due to horror stories and my schedule, and now I am disappointed again.

is this a troll? 379 isn’t near semi-hardcore at all

It can be, they may know who that hunter is and have seen them perform well and decided that gearing them up is worth it. That is if what you are saying is true. I am a bit hesitant to believe people who post these stuff on the forums just out of how many times it turns out to be heavily biased and full of lies. Again not saying that is the case for you just the history of these forums.

Anyway, nothing much you can do, move on and look for another guild. It can be a tiresome process I know but there are guilds looking for people all the time.

Bad transmog?

Guilds are run by people. Not all people are equally good at managing an enterprise like that. I’d say you got the best of the deal.

Are you sure the 309 was actually raiding? If so it sounds like they wanted to carry them with the A-team

Maybe the hunter is best buds with the raid leaded and they wanted to carry him. I am not sure what achievement points have to do with any of this, and 379 is kind of low when you consider you can easily get to ilvl 400 without touching a raid. If you feel that you are not being treated fairly by your guild, go find a new one. There are plenty out there who appreciate their players. I do recommend your work on your ilvl though

Thanks for your honesty.

Yeah, I didn’t have the best ilvl, but my recruiting officer was insistent I join, and that the guild was looking for someone like me.

I’m just going to chalk this up to what you said.

So much this. In retrospect, there was absolutely no communication about guild rule changes, goals and so forth. Just that my guild was “looking for someone like me” when I joined.

how long have you been that low ilvl?

If you were the same ilvl last week and not increased it I wouldn’t invite you either.

Last week we had a person complain about a guild and then the real story came out, turns out the person was late to guild run and made drama out of loot.

So few questions:

  1. Why did you mention “achievement points”? Why do they matter? That just shows you went out and did achievements like do a heroic raid, or did specific reqs for a boss like stack adds.

  2. This is something you just joined in recently, they can at anytime decide you don’t fit. Why are you so mad about something you just got into? Find another raiding guild instead of wasting time with wondering what issue they had with you.

Personally it sounds like it was someone’s GF or wife that they got into WoW and replaced you with, this happens all the time. Someone’s special partner ends up forcing someone else off the raid team because of the feelings for that person and that’s that.

Good to know, and thank you for your honesty.

I was 370 when I was invited, and 379 within a few days. However I stayed at that for weeks, because my guild was not progressing.

My recruiting officer kept assuring me that there was no problem, and that we would progress and get better gear.

I am really glad you told me.

Depends, I want to play with people who put an effort in.

I don’t care about people being the best or having the best gear.

I just won’t play with anyone if I felt they are coming for a free ride.

I mentioned achievement points because that is what my guild did.

I am also not angry. I am just confused. Or, was confused.

What difficulty where you guys raiding at?

OP, if you ignore the unpleasant, insulting and generally bad comments made to your post, I can only say in direct answer that I do not know what is “normal” for guilds as a whole.

I’d like to believe that the majority of people in this game are decent human beings and sometimes we just luck out and meet a few who aren’t. If I were you I’d look around for a casual guild that does a bit of raiding and who are less, shall we say, tight in the buttocks region about such things. Go for good people with decent leaders and a cheerful and supportive guild atmosphere.

Have fun in the game first, and the rest will follow.

Lol I can’t blame you for being confused because I’m even confused. If they really used achievement points as a metric of raiding then it sounds like it’s flat out just a bad guild.

Likely funneling gear to a friend like others have suggested and decided to sit the new recruit (you) in favour. They won’t get far at all.

However, a lot of guilds do sit people and change roster depending on what’s needed, but this is mostly a Mythic thing due to the fixed raid size. Very strange that a normal guild would have over 30 members and have to sit 1.

Faulty recruiting because over 30 for a normal/heroic guild is just extremely unnecessary.

We were raiding at Normal. The guild, and myself, were at 7/9 N for weeks. I pugged last night and got 8/9 N, and my guild is same as it was.

The person in question kept standing in the Sea Swell at Blockade. Which is why this is just such a freaking mystery.

People are telling me that my ilevel is off. Others are telling me that it must have been someone who knew the officers or founder. I must be naive; really, people would invite someone who stands in mechanics like that to supplant a member?

Still also confused about the “PUG” part.

In that case, 370-379 is perfectly acceptable. My guild takes along players on characters from around 340 upwards for normal. Then again, we are a bunch of lunatics so we may be outside the box, as it were.

It is possible your your personality doesn’t mesh well with the rest of the guild. People have a hard time usually confronting others about stuff and hence you get more passive aggressive approaches.
