making every race the same lawful good, even in actual society some humans can see your society as lawfully good while others would see it lawfully evil.
Why this obsession with making every character and every race the same, this is why i race changed all my blood elves. You changed a race that was interesting sinister fel sucking stuck up elves into a bunch of goody 2 shoes praise the light humans with pointy ears.
If the devs donât like established lore why didnât you just join a studio to make a brand new game instead of changing this one.
Night elf society having the women be Sentinel, warrior priestesses and Wardens while the men were mages and druids was so flavorful. It made the race seem so fantasy⌠but now weâre just being told " oh the night elves were simply socially unaware and should have never done that"
Even the void elves you could have written them as a society of elves simply not wanting to be vulnerable by being attached to the sun well instead theyâre just âgood guysâ that were studying the void and got some permanent blueberry juice on them.
I disagree with the other 2 points, but this one is bugging me a bit. Why is it so outlandish to learn about new magics as we explore new places? It was used in the Maw, so why would we have seen it before we, yaknow, went to the Maw?
Why is there so much controversy about this damn video. lol
Sure, each popular content creator may make some valid points here & there, but that doesnât mean literally every single detail of what they say is hitting the nail on the head.
Domination magic seems like it would be something that belongs to arcane(Order) more than death⌠itâs just a magic that puts chains and/or just fully mind controls things isnât really new⌠we already have mind control and it is a void/shadow magic. ( we have multiple shadow spells involving mind this or that)
You could have easily just written that the Primus made void runes to mind control but instead we had to make up an entirely new magic thats just gone now.
I think you entire post is actually less about current devs hating the lore and rather current devs trying to keep introducing new things to try and keep the story fresh. WoW lore really finished at wotlk and everything else has been⌠extra.
Some has been decent and some has been bad but in the end its all written with the mindset that we need an excuse to go wage war on a new continent.
The all races playing every class is not about lore at all and about the fact that a lot of people want it.
I doubt at any point have the CDevs ever been in charge of where the story actually goes. Lore has taken a backseat to game mechanics at every turn. Rule of Cool is the law of the land, not lore consistency.
With that having been said, my own speculation is that the safer, tamer changes to the story weâre seeing are a result of the lawsuits and sexual harassment issues in the workplace. Basically, the higher ups want the game to convey a tone of apology and forgiveness to make players think theyâve changed. In the end, itâs still all about money, not quality content; so as long as the metrics marketing says are important get hit, theyâre happy.
Opening all classes to all races feels like one more, âIn case of Emergency, Break Glass,â situation.
Sure, but if it was based on magic we understood, then it could have been transferred into use beyond the Shadowlands. The magic was created as a plot device, it was never meant to be used by players. Shifting it away from known magic allowed Blizzard to keep it contained. I just donât see this as a big deal, I guess.
You had to create a new magic to mind control Anduin⌠why not just make a new helm, the playerbase knows what the helm of domination did to Arthas⌠even in his final encounter thereâs not even a big domination magic mechanic (The Jailer) where you have to fight have your own raid or anything like that.
I dunno man, I think they dodged a bullet by not going that route. People wouldâve thrown a massive hissy fit if Blizzard just randomly remade or made a new Helm of Domination. The âslap in the faceâ threads wouldâve hit an all time high.
Itâs a 20 year old video game. Sometimes things have to be added to keep it from being stale, and changes need to be made to make it work in a video game.
Itâs similar with the writers for the last season of Game of Thrones. They just donât understand the lore and genre and their creativity was poor; thus, they destroyed with season 8 what had been building up for 7 seasons.
Todayâs Retail devs just arenât Chris Metzens.
Folks said this about another recent video of his, in which his main argument essentially boiled down to:
âI have nostalgia for older versions of WoW and that made WoW cool, now it doesnât feel like it - why? Because I said so, oh and because the game used to look way worse and way more like a generic pre-2000 MMOâ
And when faced with even the most barebone levels of criticism his response was to go onto Twitter and insult folks for criticising him rather than addressing what they said
No, Bellular has the potential to be intelligent and make good points - he is smart
But heâs also aware that making overly negative content in regards to WoW will always be more popular than well thoughtout and fairly argued points relating to it, which he also said in the video
No, heâs not an authority and his opinions and takes nowâaâdays are worth nothing
Heâs not quite to the levels of them counting in the negative as in âHe says one thing ergo per definition the opposite is more truthful regardless of whatever it isâ, so he dodges that at least ⌠but heâs so damn close to being that bad of a place to get opinions or âtakesâ from
So allow me to doubt that he has any insightful takes or even enough integrity left to make fair points relating to WoW or Blizzard anymore
Edit: eh, letâs rapid fire why these are bad talking points anyway just for fun:
Modern MMO design, and they made Lightforged Warlocks make sense so they can make any combination make sense easily
Domination magic has been part of the gameâs lore for a very long time but only ever eluded towards - its similar to folks thinking Worgens was a Cataclysm thing or that the storyline of the Scythe of Elune being tied to Duskwood and Karazhan was weird despite it being vanilla-old lore
This is weirdly phrased but in general you can deconstruct this into two things:
Even Tolkien had issues creating races that he built up as being purely beings of evil - âlawful goodâ is a D&D term and using it outside of old D&D settings is stupid, unless you are making a tier list ranking things like toilet paper and toasters because then its stupidly funny
All races and people are driven to being the best that they can be and the idea of âbut others think of them like thisâ has never been indicative of an entire race making this a pointless criticism of something which has never been good storytelling but sometimes a necessary tool to create racist antagonists
Thing is you applied to work on Warcraft⌠so why do you not want to write and W O R K on warcraft. The mythos is established, stop trying to ruin it by diluting on it
Thing is i leveled up in Ashenvale to level up my Maghar orc and the quest in those zones is rich with faction conflict and true warcraft feel⌠youâre fighting a war with the Night elves, a diplomat blood elf is killed and you find the assassin to cut off their head and bring it back to the captain. The night elves are assaulting your base you stop them with a thunder lizard, you even get the orc warlocks to help you by using fel magic to fight the elves.
Just we donât get these rich Warcraft type quest anymore, Iâm sure if i go to valdrakken and pick up that Baine quest its just about him crying about his feelings.
