I like saying I left wow for FF, but it is just to sting people who dont like it.
But I was fine playing both games, and if things were not bad in WoW by themselves, nothing would prevent me from keep playing both games. As most people would, despite the “trend” from YT talking about it.
BTW, if you dont know, Bellular, Preach, Pyro, are crap in FF. What they say is mostly nonsense, and they are under some illusion as for many aspects of FF they dont understand and have a clouded judgment based on WoW mentality. Their “contribution” is hardly to be taken seriously if you want to know what playing FF is like.
No, actually, I stopped playing WoW and this time not to go back because one simple thing I noticed, and that had nothing to do with anything else but WoW new developments:
- I found out WoW disrespects my time and charge for it.
I always knew some of these stuff, it is not FF that revealed it to me. However, as the topic says and the idea goes, each thing alone do not make a huge impact, the problem is all of them at the same time.
I know since the I played Guild Wars that WoW disrespects my progression. Reason being it is one of the few games, none of them I played but WoW, in which you get gear and it becomes “uselessER” after a while. Any game will have new content that needs new gear, but here is the thing: In WoW old content cannot be done after a while with the gear it was first designed to. Hell, even gear I had in old toons when I came back after a hiatus were both not suitable to go on, and some I couldnt even use because they were changed in class requirements. Eg.: I had a cloak in one character I spent 1 year off, and that cloak was equipped but with a red line and among the classes wasnt the one that toon WEARING IT was. Guild Wars you stop playing, you come back 2 years later, and what you were doing still possible to be done the same way it was before.
This goes as a pervasive thing throughout the game. Everything is made not only obsolete but useless, and in time you are faced with the realization that all the time you played, and all the sub you paid worth nothing, and you are as good as your last grind.
This would not be a problem at WotLK, or Cata, because it was “only gear”, and you could just use your “Ketchup Gear” while questing. But then, after that, all the stuff you need to regrind to have, and the experience you have if you had to change from EU to NA, and face the fact that instead of reutilizing your old character, you are better off making a new one, and on that, you realize a lot of stuff you did and have fond memories and pride on doing today means nothing at all.
And then the thing about these new developments.
The game today is not complex, it is not hard, it is convoluted. Lore was remade to be not interesting, not complex, just convoluted. The game itself just makes things tedious and “smash button requiring” rather than an actual challenge you would be interested in investing time to learn and repeat. MT is a good example of that. You dont really need some skill or experience to do it, you just need to bruteforce. Meaning, you wont have a “clever indication of what you have to do”, you just keep doing multiple things until one works, because there is no sign, no indication or no reason it needs to be done that way, it is just that it happens to be that way. (Meaning, there is no logic you can know about powers and abilities that tell you what to do).
And after a while, this game became just a Sisyphus rock, not a Herculean task.
FF just happens not to be better than wow, but is better than it was before, so I see no reason to stop playing it, but I see reason to stop playing wow. It is not showing it will get better anytime soon, and showing it might even get worse.
