i am being forced to use Direct X 11 Legacy, i am now getting 11 fps, when i was on regular Direct X 11, i was getting 30 fps, but my Graphics card ends up crashing and Freezing, but now i’m using Legacy, and my frame rate dropped big time, and when i am in a world boss, i am getting 7 fps, and end up dying, and keep coming back tell the counter is long to REZ, and end up missing my world quest, blizzard can you guys make it when your dead, you still get the world quest, it would really help since you guys added Legacy, it messed up my game…
What card do you have?
Post your message in the Tech Support forum. Maybe the Blizzard techs can provide a solution.
That’s weird. I was having problems like that but when I switched to the legacy mode my graphic performance improved greatly.
I also have to use DX 11 legacy, but it does not affect my frame rate. I cap framerate at 90 or so and in the open world, I get that. If things get “busy”, I still get in the 40s usually.
Both AMD and Nvidia have driver issues lately. So depending on your card you might have to revert to a older version. Technical support forums would definitely be better. They probably will need to see your direct x system report, and msinfo to know for sure.
Geforce 680 GTX
I doctored that up a bit for ya.
i was having fps drops as well, i found that applying “no scaling” to desktop size/position in the nVidia control panel fixed it for me, in addition to dropping to legacy DX11. (i play wow in windowed format)
I suggest you invest in a GTX 1660. It’s about $200. I payed $350 for my RTX 2060.
I’m not sure what they did with 8.3, but something was definitely changed graphically.
Before 8.3 dropped, with my FPS capped at 60 (even in hairy, spammy fights), my GPU temperature would barely break 55c, no FPS loss.
After 8.3, same situations, FPS can drop to the 30s, and the temperature skyrockets to 75c+.
I don’t know exactly what, but they definitely changed something. And I heavily suspect its has to do with how particle effects and projected textures are rendered.
I also play on a laptop and have been having issues lately, which started with 8.3. Down to 15-20 FPS in raids and some zones/dungeons whereas it was 50-90 before. Game locks up for 5-10 sec when NPCs do their voice overs (the ones that show their character portrait) and sometimes when looking at mission table or my gear. I keep meaning to switch to legacy but I’m concerned about dropping even more FPS. Mechagon keys are basically unplayable due to the voiceovers and terrible FPS.
Game requirements increased with time…your graphics card i would put it bluntly just scratching the line at best…you should consider yourself lucky to even run at 30 fps…let not talk about “Back in my day” those days are long gone and i agree with suggestions to get a low end 1660
glad i visited this thread. I suspect there may be an issue with newer drivers and how the new patch ineracts with them. I actually wasn’t having issues with the new patch until I updated my driver to the new nvidia one for my card.
suddenly temperature spikes all over. could be machine issues on my end but I haven’t ruled out driver or patch isues completely either.
I came back to the game last Friday, the 14th. I have a fairly burly system, and I definitely noticed big performance drops all over the place.
Where I was getting 140 frames before I get 90-100 now. And Boralus? Wowzers! I can actually go sub-60 there on Stormrage.
I see multiple comments regarding temperature spikes and I’m glad I visited this thread because I was wondering if it was just me and my particular machine. I play on both desktop and laptop and haven’t really paid attention to the desktop CPU temperature but I always know what my laptop temp is because I have after-market fans with thermometers on them and they tend to run pretty close to what the actual temperature is, as logged by the system, itself. It increased about 20 degrees, give or take, and stays pretty consistently in that range, now. I had some issues with micro-freezes and lag, but I found this was caused by one specific addon and when I deleted it, those problems ceased, but the temp change persists. It’s not causing any problems, persay, and it is still within an acceptable range, but I just wish I knew exactly what changed to cause it to happen.
I’m not one to continuously update my drivers. WoW starts having issues and then I update my drivers, but I have never fixed an issue by updating my driver. The only way I have fixed an issue with WoW is reverting to DX 11. Their (Blizzard) implementation of DX sucks, IMO.
I don’t believe it’s a driver issue. Since 8.3’s frame tanking and temperature spike shenanigans, I’ve gone through five sets of drivers. From fresh off the press to over a year old.
As an extreme example, I shouldn’t have my GPU light up to near 80c soloing a single elite quest mob in Uldum, up in the air on an empty platform, every time it poops out projected textures.
I can’t help but think they changed something, purposely or not, that’s causing this.
oddly enough I didn’t have any issues with the patch until i updated my driver to the january build.
at that point I started running about 95 celcius with graphics card stutters like black screen briefly (sound still running). I took some measures to get the over heating under control.
I’m currently using the direct x 11 legacy in game and I seem to be running cooler now but I haven’t had a good gaming session to see if the stutters go away . for me it usually happens after several hours of instanced or open world gaming.
If you do buy a new graphics card and only play WoW, just get the cheaper gtx 1650 instead of 1660, so you won’t have to maybe get a new power supply as well. If you want more power, get rx 570 which is even cheaper and better, but requires an extra pin connector which an old computer might not have.
