Hi all, I’m new to a Hunter…hoping to get some advises here to help me progress better…thanks in advance:-
I’m on BM for leveling…should I be looking for a bow with higher damage and slower speed?
which 2 main prof is the best for me more for leveling purposes and end game pve…
Is “The Rake” still a good and viable leveling pet? I asked because I read somewhere stated that they do not have abilities unlike most other pets like boar with Bite and Claw…I read it’s one of the best pet for its’ unique attack speed but I’m not sure if I read the outdated info… its 7 levels below me, will there eventually catch up to my level or they will be a level gap till much later?
whats the best meat to feed them (currently im using haunch of meat, should I use better meats to keep their loyalty last longer?)
I read about pet talent starting level 20…is this in Classic or retail?
pet training - if there is a rank 1 (1 TP) and rank 2(10 TP) unlearnt, can i learnt ignore rank 1 and go for rank 2 instead? that way I’ll be saving some TP’s learning lower ranks…or will I lose out stats from lower ranks if I go directly for higher ones…
whats the best mainhand for my level that I should use? sword? axe? mace? (if not mistaken i read Staff is the best end game for the +crit chance)…
Is Icy Veins guide for Hunter BM level 1-60 still a good guide?
I find myself shooting really slow (2.50 speed bow), will there be any atk speed boost from skills/talents at higher level?
are there any stun ability on the hunter aside from pet’s 3 sec stun from talent?
thanks a lot, sorry for asking so many noob questions…
Yes, but with leveling any flat weapon upgrade is helpful.
Gathering Professions like herbalism and skinning can help with cash flow -or- herbalism and alchemy so you can make your own consumables.
Check out Petopia for all your pet questions. Most cats are perfectly viable leveling pets.
You get pet abilities as soon as you can tame them. No talents though. Again, check out Petopia.
Check out Petopia. Pet skills and training points are explained thoroughly there.
Anything that ups your AGL and/or AP. Items “of the monkey” are really good.
Not sure. Didn’t use it.
You can get speed increases from a talent (IAotH), your quiver/ammo pouch and class abilities (rapid fire). Generally speaking, at endgame, slower is better. Hunters in Classic #1 ranged weapon is a slow crossbow.
No stuns, but there are incapacitate and immobilization abilities such as freezing trap, scattershot and improved traps/wing clip.
(1) Weapon Speed – slowest is best, for hard(er)-hitting Aimed Shots and Multi-Shots. Faster ranged weapons also mean using up your ammo faster. Not a big deal, but that’s another consideration.
(2) Herbalism/Skinning, Mining/Skinning, Herbalism/Mining until you’re Level 40 or have 100G for your Level 40 Mount (whichever happens first). Consider Engineering after 40.
(3)/(4)/(5) The Rake is a good pet because it’s attack speed is 1.2. For LOTS MORE information about pets, see here https:// www.wow-petopia. com/classic/
(6) If you learn a higher level pet skill, the ‘difference’ in TP between the lower level (that you already know) and the higher level will be ‘refunded’ to you
(7) Main-hand weapon type really doesn’t matter for Hunters. The +5 bonus to axes is nice for an Orc, but Hunters do not need to concern themselves with melee weapon type. Go with whatever has the best stats, or whatever type you like the most (I like axes on my Orc, staffs or polearms on my Fruit Elf)
(8) Yes, it’s fine. You really cant go ‘wrong’ leveling as a BM Hunter.
(9) Bonuses to ranged weapon speed is primarily from your ammo pouch/quiver
(10) Intimidation is the only stun. Freezing Trap is not a stun, but will completely paralyze the target. Scatter Shot is a disorient. Freezing Trap and Scatter Shot will turn-off pet attack, but will break on any damage (including Viper Sting).
Lots of interesting & varied way that you can spec & play a Hunter while leveling up, especially when soloing. I had a lot of fun with Survival leveling up, & using melee & traps, mixed with ranged fire. It’s always humorous to watch a Hunter waste time/energy & always struggle to maintain range while soloing when they could have killed it faster just using proper melee on it & doing a quick shift to Aspect of the Monkey if they were the one tanking it. Disengage is also a great/useful ability to ping-pong aggro & damage between you & a your pet.
Some personal observations on my 60 Hunter: Improved Aspect of the Hawk benefits a lot more from faster bows, since it will proc more often with more shots going out over X amount of time. On my 3.4 speed Crossbow of Smiting it pretty much never procs between the slow shot speed & the insanely short fights in modern “meta” WoW, so I ditched it. The pathetic +16 AP from max-rank Improved Hunter Mark for 5/5 talent points also isn’t worth it really either, most especially when another Hunter in the raid always seems to have it & use it like clockwork. I’m sure some super-hardcore OCD min-max types will have a heart attack by such suggestions, however.
