I’m fairly new to WoW and VERY new to the Mage class. I’ve played hunters and rogues many years ago and just recently tried classic but it felt too slow. So I’m trying out a mage in BFA and have a question on mages.
I started a mage and hes level 22 now. I tried out frost for while and then switched to arcane. People keep telling me to use frost as a beginner but frost seems so slow to kill compared to arcane. Am I missing something?
Using Frost bolt and ice lance seem to take FOREVER to kill. Am I doing something wrong here? Why would there be such a difference in time to kill?
Any help here would be greatly appreciated Remember I’m new to this so be kind lol
How DARE YOU come to the mage advice forum and ask for advice? Hang your head in SHAME!!!
Actually you’re not doing anything wrong, frost is AWFUL for leveling until you get at least ebonbolt (a long time). Do yourself a favor and swap to arcane until you’re around 45-60, then you can go frost.
Yeah, frost takes longer to kill because frost bolts slow enemies so in turn do a little less damage than arcane/fire spells.
The nice thing about leveling frost is you feel a bit more mobile than you do as arcane or fire, for one, because frost bolt is quick to cast and ice lance is instant (AND no cool down either), and since fb slows enemies, you can run circles around them and still throw lances. Leveling arcane or fire you get hit more often, and if you pull too many mobs you’ll have a harder time getting away than if you’re frost. Those have been my experiences anyway.
Unless Blizzard increases the damage of Frostbolt, Arcane will be best for leveling. Mages aren’t as fragile as they used to be due to all three specs having shields and crowd control abilities. In dungeons, my alt mage spams Arcane Explosion and then throws Arcane Barrage on groups. On single enemies, Arcane Blast and Arcane Missiles deal a bunch of damage.
