Beginner friendly realms?

So I have a friend who’s probably going to pick up WoW sometime next month. They decided on alliance because they like the way it looks, and picked a class after I showed off a few of my alts.

Then they asked me what server would be best for a new person. I was totally stuck for an answer, because I a. Mostly play horde, and b. Play on large realms where people are a bit harsh.

So from your experiences what are the most newbie friendly realms to play on? They don’t know much about rp (but that’s not to say the right environment won’t coax that out of them), they have no real concept of pve or pvp. It’s more a question of what are the players like in your community?

Any suggestions would be hugely appreciated as I’d be migrating some toons over and rolling a fresh one to keep them company as well.

Dalaran is a good server to start on, but don’t think about staying there for long. You should migrate to an actual server later.

Are they happy to move to a populated server later on? If not then start them on a populated one from the get go

I’m confused. How is Dalaran not an actual server? It’s got a healthy community oriented population (especially Alliance-side.) Unless you want to join a world first raiding guild, what else do you really need?
