Before You Join <XL> Read This!

I joined XL about a month ago, when they were just taking their first steps into raiding. Around that time, they had come off the cuff of having done a shoddy MC run with another guild named Vexed. They were all having fun joking about how the gear distribution was messed up along the way and some classes ended up receiving gear that wasn’t entirely appropriate for their classes. Hubbcapps, a Troll Shaman, ended up rolling on the Sorcerous Dagger which pissed off a lot of caster DPS in Vexed.

XL has no recruiting standards. It’s basically an open spigot and everyone and anyone can invite anyone else. This happens often–the guild is very large! I joined shortly after I transferred to the server and was already level 60 with some pre-Raid BiS. They have a kind of “inner circle” of friends which I wasn’t immediately aware of beforehand, but later I discovered they’ll basically screw you over if it benefits them, no matter your contributions. I’ll get to that later…

I got to know some of these guys over the month and one of them even added me to friends in BattleNet. Jimmybeans, an Orc Rogue, who would often ask me to join UBRS or other endgame dungeons. We ran UBRS quite a few times and I thought we made a great stunlock combo for particular mobs.

One time we were doing UBRS and Jimmy asks me to let another Rogue, Rattlebones, have the Dal’Rend Main Hand weapon since he already had the Off-Hand weapon. I did so; I passed on my roll. To my surprise, the tank–Tarabara–rolls Need on it and says, “Okay, I’m duel-wield tank now!”

I whisper Jimmy later and he has nothing to say in response other than “We all saw.” Later on, I’m talking to Tarabara in Discord about it and he’s like, “Oh yeah, I feel bad about it. But we’ll totally do UBRS more…”

On a side note, I haven’t seen Rattlebones online much after this incident.

Anyway, a week or two later and we’re starting MC and doing endgame attunements. I’m well into getting attuned to Onyxia’s Lair and I even get lucky in LBRS and win all three stones for the Seal of Ascension! Life is good! Eventually, we achieve 7/8 MC and 1/1 Ony. I had the privilege of being part of XL’s first Onyia kill. I even recorded the fight and put it on YouTube for posterity.

The following week, our GM, Roflbawt, says he’s away on vacation and leaves a few officers in charge of our MC and Ony runs. I also happen to be unavailable on Wednesday in addition to Jimmybeans who had personal stuff he wanted to attend to. Nevertheless, XL manages to bring a mass of people into MC made up of a lot of newcomers who had gotten geared and attuned within the last two weeks.

So, Come Sunday (the day I wrote this) and we have a raid scheduled for 7:00PM, as it has been. Now, the call to raiding starts about thirty minutes prior. I come online at 6:00PM, an hour before the raid and am invited to do a quick UBRS run with Jimmy and some other guildies who are working on their attunement. We try to rush through the dungeon ASAP since we want to be ready at 6:30PM for invites.

After the UBRS run, I leave our UBRS group and wait for an invite. It doesn’t come. I whisper two of the officers, Fireball and Hobo. Neither one of them responds. I whisper Jimmy, asking him what’s up and he says he doesn’t know.

I go all the way out to Dustwallow Marsh and arrive at Onyxia’s Lair and see a few other guildies waiting outside. While there, I try whispering several of the officers and asking them for an invite. None of them respond to me.

Next thing I know, Fireball says 3 DPS slots need to be filled. He says this in /guild. This confuses the hell out of me. So, in guild chat, I say that I’ve been online since 6:00PM and then I whisper Fireball again. There was one other guildmember named Moofasa who was waiting outside the instance whom I mentioned was also waiting. Fireball doesn’t respond to me and he doesn’t send me an invite. However, Moofasa eventually enters the instance. So, this was direct confirmation to me that I was being blatantly ignored. Around 7:30, I’m still waiting outside Onyxia’s Lair and DBM notifies me that the guild has engaged the boss. So, I do an immediate /gquit.

I was with XL for about a month. One of the first things I did when I joined was help a Warrior farm a bunch of Devilsaurs for his gloves. Later I made his leggings for him. I made Devilsaur sets for three other people in the guild as well. Morever, I did several UBRS and LBRS runs to help folks with their attunements–in addition to supplying a Seal of Ascension for UBRS access. I was one of the first to be attuned to Onyxia’s Lair and I was part of the original group that took her down for the guild’s first time. I was one of about 3 other people in the guild with Finkle’s Skinner and I was the one elected to skin the Corehounds in MC. I was also one of the few who actually had a Seal of Ascension, which meant that many of our early UBRS runs were made possible because I was in the group.

And I don’t say any of this to stoke my own ego or my importance to the guild. Rather, I say all this because it was, at best, helpful and contributed in our overall progression. I did what I could given the tools I had, be it Devilsaur armor, Ironfeather armor, or Chimera leathers, etc. It doesn’t seem to have mattered now.

These same folks wouldn’t even spare a word when I ask them why they wouldn’t invite me just a week after we downed Onyxia for the first time. They very blatantly ignored me and wouldn’t even offer a simple nor respectful reason as to why. I whispered about four different people whom I had grouped with on many different occaisions and not a single one of them had the balls to tell me what was going on.

You know, I wish I could recommend the guild. I had a lot of good times with folks, but I’m afraid my experience will just follow others. The most disappointing part about all this is that Jimmybeans was a legit fun guy to hang with. I enjoyed my interactions with him right up until he put himself on DND sometime after I asked him what was going on and why none of the officers would respond to me. Way to stand on your laurels, buddy!

TL;DR

Don’t join XL. No matter what you contribute, you’ll eventually get thrown under the bus and these folks won’t even spare any few words telling you the reason why. The guild is large, but there’s a small circle of friends who are very childish and will use you to boost themselves and leave you out to dry once they’re done with you. And they won’t even tell you why.

So morale of this story is if cheese doesn’t get in a raid / dungeon group he will /gquit your guild in a heartbeat. He says he was left out but when 90 level 60’s want to go to ONY. and he doesn’t get into the raid he gets upset. Can’t get all in that’s why were trying to form a second group for raids. Thank you for the fun times but just getting upset and bashing a guild because u didn’t get what you want shows a lot.

If that was the case, then why wouldn’t anyone respond to me?

You’re lying, Deadlybolts. And I think that you know that you’re lying. I cannot fathom why grown adults would elect to stay silent and not even render a simple response to someone asking for an invite if the case were as simple as you’re making it.

I whispered Hobo, Fireball, Tarabara, and Hubcapps. None of them responded to me. This wasn’t about a second raid group or not having enough people.

Fireball even said in /guild that you were 3 DPS slots short of a full raid and continue to ignore me when I said I had been available for a full hour before the raid had even begun.

So, you were “trying to form a second raid group” ? No. That is a blatant lie.

Why we have a discord cheese. I’m sure the officers weren’t trying to single you out. With a large amount of people spamming trying to get into raid. it might be a little hard to search though the whispers. In the future if your guild has a discord etc. Should get on that and join the channel and voice it instead of bashing. This is not retail where guilds are running 10-20 people have to understand that. I’m sorry your whispers weren’t seen but there’s other ways to handle it other than bashing on the forms.

Nope, still not buying it. Fireball sent the invite out in /guild and I responded both in guild and through whispers. You want to have me believe all four people I whispered were not paying attention to their chat-bar and also just happened to forget about a person who had been raiding and doing dungeons with them for the past four weeks?

I whispered them several times. I even told Jimmybeans, who responded to me, and he said he mentioned me in Discord. What’s more, none of the officers even reached out to me after I left the guild to ask what was wrong, which is just further confirmation to me that there’s some other reason why I wasn’t invited.

Did you all just not like me? Was it something about my personality that rubbed you the wrong way? Did I say something that offended one of you?

The way XL handled this and the way you’re handling right now are just childish. You’ve lied again. First it was “Oh, we were trying to form a second group.” I called you out on that and then you say, “Oh…uh…well, you should have said something on Discord!”

Which one is it?

Were trying to form a second raid team. Seems like your still enrage over a game with pixels. Going to let you cool down it’s just a game bud. No-one doesn’t hate you. I’m sorry you feel this way I hope the best for you and your WoW future best of luck.

An enraged person would probably be speaking with a lot of passion and would not make any sense. I’ve laid things out quite clearly and rationally. Anyone reading what I’ve written can see that.

Again, if you were trying to form a second raid team, that was not communicated to me in any way, shape, or form. If you were forming a second raid team, then Fireball would not have made the call for 3 more DPS in /guild and ignored me when I responded to him several times asking for an invite.

You’re going back to your previously lie even after you’ve also told me that I should have been on Discord to ask for an invite.

You’ve told two lies so far and, after being called out for both of them, you’ve now resorted to “it’s just a game bro!”’

Given you’ve taken time out of your day to respond to several of my posts, your accusation actually makes you look like you’re irrational. Not me.

Cheese there is no lies. Were sorry you didn’t get into the raid group but instead of /gquit with in mins in game we could of talked it out. By the post; and remarks it seem like your trying to start a fight. It’s not going to happen. We are sorry you feel this way. We weren’t trying to single you out.

You’re not sorry. If you were, one of the officers would have reached out to me as soon as I left and asked what the problem was. The situation isn’t at all what you’re making it out to be and you’re well aware of this as you’ve obfuscated it several times at this point.

The fact that even Jimmybeans hasn’t reached out to me tells me everything I need to know.

There are people in the guild who know this about you guys as well. I’ve had a few contact me with similar experiences. They’re also keeping an eye on these posts. It’s why I’ve been able to say what I say with full confidence. I didn’t just come out of the blue assuming any of this. It’s a pattern and it’s going to catch up to you.

You aren’t fooling anyone with your “sorry you feel this way” routine.

Hello, Cheeseknife

I feel it is appropriate for me to respond to your post.

As previously stated, we had over 60 people online last night who wanted to attend our Onyxia & Molten Core raids.

Since we have started our 1st raid group and had many new members reach level 60 we have always tried to prioritize those who were previously raiding with us.

Sometimes this is not always possible.

I read your post carefully, many times, actually. I found it slightly amusing that you only put one mention of me in your post (I am an officer of XL).

Approximately 1 hour prior to Onyxia start, I had received multiple messages from other guild members about you rolling need on Tier 0.5 gear when you had Tier 1 currently equipped.

I did not receive a complete answer to my questions I asked you about your motive on this item.

I had planned to g-kick you at that point in time, there were other occurrences also, mainly with your attitude towards other guild members, and what I interpret to be an extreme self-progression attitude. I had contacted you three times in this last week about your actions. I chose not to g-kick you prior to raid for a couple reasons;

  1. I did not want to create any unnecessary talk, or drama in guild or raid at the start of our encounter with Onyxia.

  2. I was concerned that you may be able to enter Molten Core while we were in Onyxia, and therefore hinder our ability to down Ragnaros. (Wouldn’t have been the case because you did not attend our raid on Wednesday 10/16) but I didn’t realize at the time.

You ultimately ended up leaving the guild on your own, which is fine by me… I did not take the time to respond to you because I was focusing on our guild progression.

Oh, I know you and the other officers like playing musical chairs with everyone except for yourselves when you do your raids. In fact, I feel like the only reason you kept me around was because I was one of the only people with Finkle’s Skinner.

Regardless, I gave you more information about why I wanted that belt than Tarabara ever gave about rolling on Dal Rend. After Jimmybeans asked me not to roll on the sword, after he explained why Rattlebones deserved it. So, let me quote Tarabara and say, “Oh, I feel really bad about what I did. But we’re going to run UBRS so many more times…”

Should be legit, right? That’s how XL runs things, right?

Is that good enough for ya? Or how about I roll Resto Shaman and roll on DPS caster gear and say “Oh, it’s my pre-Raid BiS!” and then ask you to /gkick anyone who challenges my assertions. That’s how XL runs the show, right?

Now, I want you take a look at your final statement.

“I did not take the time to respond to you because I was focusing on our guild progression.”

I was part of that progression. I was there during Ony first. I was there skinning corehounds when we were doing MC as XL, not XL/Vexed. So, your not taking time to respond to me is not “focusing on our guild progression.” It is the exact opposite.

Your comment about my not being able to go into MC is also baffling and I have to assume you’re lying that as well. I whispered you the day of that raid, sometime around 10:00PM and you confirmed that the group was full. Why then would you make that assumption on Sunday?

I should also remind you that Jimmybeans was also absent from MC on Wednesday as well. I confirmed this on Wednesday night. But you still invited him to the raid. None of this makes sense, Hobo. Why would you lie?

How many others are you going to ignore or refuse to respond to for the sake of whatever you think is “guild progression.” How many folks are your select few going to ride through MC, Ony, and onward until they realize “guild progression” is just contributing to a few people who will always get a spot in raid while others are ignored?

There are other making their own contributions to the guild right now and they’re expecting to be compensated for those. Are you just going to ignore them and tell them, “Oh, I was focusing on guild progression” after they ask you what’s going on?

Ultimately, I’ve said what I wanted to say. It’s here for everyone to see. Let everyone judge as he or she wills. Hell, you’ve even indirectly proved Deadlybolts was also lying about his earlier assertions as well. That’s not a very good look for you; you probably should have just been quiet and let things ride out.

Let’s not forget the reason you had a Finkle’s Skinner -

" I want it for Thorium Rep and Core Leather to make my gear" - Cheeseknife 2019.

Everyone else in the group was willing to pass on it so an officer in the guild could have a knife. Except for you… so don’t try and act like you know anything about guild progression… We ended up getting 2 shortly after, so it didn’t matter after the first raid.

We knew why Jimmybeans was absent from the raid on Wednesday, he let us know weeks in advance… we didn’t know why you were absent…

Like I said, 50% attendance.
